🏆 Stitch definition — Judges look at how your quilting reads. Wool batting is the show favorite: its resilient loft makes every feather and fill pop with dimension, and it resists creasing when the quilt is folded and shipped.
📏 Flat, square edges — A stable batting keeps borders from waving so the quilt hangs perfectly.
What Heirloom Quilts Need
💛 Proven longevity — Choose quality natural fibers: 100% cotton, wool, or cotton-wool blends from names like Quilters Dream and Hobbs. These fibers have literally centuries of history inside quilts that survived.
🧵 Fine needling — If you're hand quilting, a low-loft cotton or silk-blend batting needles beautifully and rewards those tiny stitches.
