Every retreat, guild meeting, and quilt class has one thing in common: someone struggling through the parking lot with a 25-pound sewing machine in her arms. The Tutto case on wheels exists to end that. It is the machine case we sell more of than every other brand combined, and the only question customers really have is which size. This is the complete answer.
Why Tutto
Tutto's frame is aircraft-grade steel tubing that folds flat to two inches when you are not using it, and the case rolls on four wheels so it carries 100% of the weight - you push it like a stroller instead of dragging it like airline luggage. The fabric shell means it will not crack like hard cases, and the frame is rated well beyond any domestic machine's weight. Machines ride level, fully enclosed, with pockets for feet, cords, and notions on every side.
The Sizes, Decoded
Medium 20" - Compact Machines and Featherweights
For machines up to roughly 17.5" wide: Featherweights, small Brothers and Janomes, and most travel machines. Available in Black and Purple.
Large 21-22" - Standard Full-Size Machines
The right size for most standard sewing machines up to about 19" wide - think Brother CS and PQ series, Janome 6700P, Juki TL machines. See Large 22" Red, Turquoise, 21" Dahlia, and 21" Red Dotted Circle.
Extra Large 24" - Larger Sewing and Quilting Machines
For bigger quilting machines up to about 21.5" wide, including many Bernina 7-series and mid-size embroidery machines. Available in Pink Diamond, Blue Diamond, Black, and Purple.
2X Large 28" - The Big Embroidery and Flagship Machines
Our best seller. This is the case for the flagship combo machines - Bernina 790/880, Brother Luminaire and Dream Machine, Babylock Solaris and Destiny, Janome 15000/M17 - anything up to roughly 25.5" wide. Available in Pink Diamond, Purple Diamond, Black, Cherry Red, and Turquoise. Read the full deep dive in our Tutto 2XL guide.
Sergers and Accessories
The dedicated Serger Case on Wheels is shaped for overlockers, and the matching Accessory Serger Bags (also in Pink, Purple, and Turquoise) carry cones and tools. The Embroidery Bag protects hoops and modules, and the Clear Organizing Bags (Black, Red, Purple, Turquoise) let you see every notion without digging.
How to Measure Your Machine
Measure width, depth, and height of your machine with the widest attachments on - handwheel, spool pins folded down, and any extension removed. Then add an inch of clearance in each direction. When a machine lands between two sizes, size up: the extra room becomes pocket space for the foot pedal, cords, and hoops, and machines should never be forced against the shell.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What size Tutto do I need for a Bernina, Brother Luminaire, or Babylock Solaris?
- The flagship embroidery combos - Bernina 790/880, Luminaire, Dream Machine, Solaris, Destiny, Janome 15000 - need the 2X Large 28". Standard full-size sewing machines fit the Large 21-22", and most mid-size machines with embroidery units fit the Extra Large 24". Measure your machine and add an inch of clearance to be sure.
- Can a Tutto case go on an airplane?
- The Medium meets most domestic carry-on size limits; larger sizes fly as checked luggage. Quilters check Tuttos constantly - the steel frame protects the machine - but remove the needle, secure the presser foot, and pad the harp space with batting scraps. Always confirm your airline's current size and weight limits.
- Do the wheels handle parking lots and hotel carpet?
- Yes - four wheels carry all of the weight so nothing hangs from your arm, and the case pushes ahead of you like a stroller. It rolls over asphalt, thresholds, and carpet without tipping because the load sits low and level.
- Does a Tutto fold for storage?
- The frame collapses to about two inches flat, so it slides under a bed or behind a door between retreats - the biggest practical advantage over hard-shell rolling cases.
- Will my accessories fit in the same case?
- Yes. Every Tutto has exterior and interior pockets for pedals, cords, feet, and hoops, and the matching embroidery, serger, and clear organizing bags stack on top of the case handle system for a one-trip load-in.
