Description

This is the Throw Plus package of Bliss 100% Bamboo Batting by Therm O Web: one pre-cut piece, 60" x 72". Allow at least 2" of batting beyond every edge of the top, so this size covers rectangular throws up to about 56" x 68", and it also works for couch quilts and oversize baby quilts. If your top is larger than that, step up to the Twin 72" x 96".

Bliss 100% Bamboo is a 4 oz per square yard batting made from bamboo viscose fibers on a thin polyester scrim. It is softer than cotton, with a smooth hand and a drape that makes it a favorite for throws, bed quilts and quilted garments. Bamboo breathes and regulates temperature well, so it is a good pick for summer quilts and warm climates, and the fiber is naturally anti-bacterial with no bleach or harsh chemicals added.

The scrim keeps it from stretching or bunching under the needle, and it quilts up to 8" apart by hand or machine with clean stitch definition and minimal bulk. Therm O Web recommends pre-washing by hand; shrinkage is under 5%, and an un-prewashed quilt washes cold on delicate and tumbles dry low. For an all-natural option with no scrim, see the Bliss 100% Cotton in this size.

Compare and choose

Is the Throw Plus 60" x 72" package big enough for my quilt?
Allow at least 2" of batting past every edge of the top, so this piece covers rectangular throws up to about 56" x 68". Measure the finished top before you buy. If it runs larger, step up to the Twin 72" x 96"; the extra batting trims off easily and the offcuts make hot pads, placemats and mug rugs. Twin 72" x 96"
Throw Plus 60" x 72" or Throw 60" x 60"?
Same batting, 12" longer. Pick Throw Plus for the usual rectangular couch throw, which runs about 56" x 68" finished. If your quilt is square and 56" or smaller, the Throw 60" x 60" is enough. Throw 60" x 60"
Bliss 100% Bamboo vs Bliss 100% Cotton: which should I buy?
Both are 4 oz, quilt up to 8" apart and shrink under 5%. Bamboo is softer, drapes more and breathes better, and its thin polyester scrim adds stability for machine quilting. Cotton has no scrim, is fully natural and gives the crinkled antique finish after washing. Choose bamboo for summer quilts, throws and garments where drape matters; choose cotton for a traditional hand-quilted feel or anything microwave-bound. Bliss 100% Cotton Throw Plus 60" x 72"
Bliss 100% Bamboo vs Pellon Bamboo/Cotton or Quilters Dream Bamboo?
Bliss is 100% bamboo viscose on a polyester scrim. Pellon Bamboo/Cotton is a bamboo and cotton blend on a scrim, a bit firmer and closer to cotton in feel. Quilters Dream Bamboo blends bamboo with silk and cotton for a very soft, drapey hand. If you want the pure bamboo feel, Bliss is the pick; if you mostly want a batting a little softer than cotton that still handles like cotton, look at the Pellon. Quilters Dream Bamboo packages
Is bamboo batting warm, and can I use it for garments or hot pads?
Bamboo regulates temperature rather than trapping heat, so it is comfortable year-round and a favorite for summer quilts and warm climates. Its drape makes it good for quilted jackets and vests. Do not use it in the microwave: the batting is viscose on a polyester scrim, not pure cotton. Use Bliss 100% Cotton or Pellon Wrap-N-Zap for bowl cozies and hot pads. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
Do I need to pre-wash Bliss batting?
Therm O Web recommends pre-washing by hand, and most of our customers who want a flat, modern finish do. Shrinkage is under 5% either way. If you skip it, wash the finished quilt in cold water on the delicate cycle and tumble dry low; the slight shrink gives the soft, crinkled look.
How far apart can I quilt it, and does it work for hand quilting?
Up to 8" apart, by hand or machine. The thin scrim keeps the layers from stretching while you quilt and is light enough that hand quilters still find it easy to needle.
