If you love minky softness but want a backing that covers a quilt in a single panel, Green Extra Wide Mist Cuddle® Forest from Shannon Fabrics was made for you. This extra-wide plush pairs a subtle, modern digitally printed design in deep forest green with a smooth, ultra-soft hand — no piecing a backing from narrower cuts, and no seam down the middle of your quilt.
What This Fabric Is
Extra Wide Mist Cuddle® is a digitally printed minky plush fabric made from 100% polyester. It has a short 3mm pile — the smooth, low plush that gives Cuddle® its signature silky feel without a lot of bulk in the seam. At 360 grams per linear yard, it has a satisfying, cozy weight that drapes beautifully over a bed or sofa while staying easy to handle at the machine.
The width is the headline: 88 to 90 inches wide. That generous cut is what makes Mist Cuddle® so practical for backings and long-arm quilting. The design is digitally printed onto the plush, so the subtle modern pattern in the Forest colorway stays even and smooth across that full width. Because the pile has a direction, run your hand across the surface before you cut — it feels smoother in one direction — and mark the top of each piece on the wrong side so the nap runs the same way throughout your project.
What It's Best For
- One-piece quilt backings: At 88/90 inches wide, it backs most throw, twin, and many larger quilts in a single seamless panel — the use Shannon Fabrics highlights first for this line.
- Long-arm quilting: The extra width and smooth 3mm pile make it a favorite backing choice for long-arm work, where fewer seams mean smoother loading and quilting.
- Throw blankets: Use it whole-cloth with a simple binding for an oversized, super-cozy throw, or pair it with a cotton or Cuddle® top for a two-sided blanket.
- Whole-cloth quilts: The subtle forest green print is pretty enough to stand on its own — add quilting and binding and let the color and texture carry the design.
How to Sew with It
Use clips instead of pins where you can. Plush layers can creep under pins, and pins can get lost in the pile. Wonder clips grip the edge firmly without shifting the layers or leaving holes. If you do pin, pin generously and keep pins inside the seam allowance.
Fit a walking foot and lengthen your stitch. A walking foot feeds the plush layer evenly with the layer beneath it, so seams stay straight instead of wavy. Set your stitch length to about 3.0–3.5mm — longer stitches settle neatly into the 3mm pile, while very short stitches can pucker the fabric and bury themselves in the plush.
Cut flat, one layer at a time. Lay this wide fabric out fully supported so its weight doesn't drag it off grain. Cut with a rotary cutter or sharp scissors, and expect a little fluff at the edges — shake pieces outdoors and keep a lint roller near your machine.
Press gently, and only from the back. Polyester plush doesn't love high heat, which can flatten or damage the pile. Finger-press when you can; if you need an iron, use a low synthetic setting on the wrong side only, with a press cloth, and test on a scrap first. Never press directly on the plush face.
Care Instructions
Follow the care guidance for this fabric: machine wash cold with like colors, no fabric softener, and tumble dry low with no dryer sheet. Softener and dryer-sheet coatings build up on polyester fibers and dull that ultra-soft feel over time, so skipping them keeps the plush smooth and cuddly wash after wash. Avoid high heat in both the washer and dryer.
For a backing that finishes a quilt in one easy piece — and a throw that feels as good as it looks — Forest Green Extra Wide Mist Cuddle® brings modern color, real width, and Shannon softness together in a single cut.
