Sewing with Luxe Cuddle Wild Rabbit in Silver Lining: Rustic Texture for Quilts and Scarves
Some plush fabrics are simply soft. Luxe Cuddle Wild Rabbit is soft with character. In Silver Lining, a grey colorway, its marbled, embossed surface adds depth you can see and feel — rustic and complex at once, yet just as friendly and warm as it is chic.
What This Fabric Is
Silver Lining Luxe Cuddle Wild Rabbit is a Shannon Fabrics Luxe Cuddle minky plush fabric, made with 100% polyester fibers. It is sold per yard at 58/60 inches wide, a versatile width for both quilt projects and wearables.
Its defining feature is its texture. Shannon describes a unique, almost marbled, embossed texture that adds depth and sophistication and mimics the hide of a rabbit — without using real animal hide. That embossing breaks up the solid grey in a subtle, natural-looking way, so a finished project reads less like flat plush and more like a layered, tactile textile. As a Luxe Cuddle, it has a noticeably plush, cozy hand, and the embossed surface catches light differently as it drapes and folds.
What It's Best For
Shannon notes this fabric is perfect for a wide range of projects, from quilts to wearable scarves.
For quilts, use it as a whole backing for instant warmth and texture, or as the featured fabric in large blocks and strips where the marbling can show. As a backing, it makes a quilt interesting on both sides. For throws and blankets, it needs very little help — a simple self-bound or satin-bound throw lets the texture be the design.
For wearables, it makes especially inviting scarves, wraps, and cowls, worn close to the skin where softness matters most. The grey Silver Lining color pairs easily with winter coats and everyday outfits. It also suits cushion covers and bed runners, where its rustic-yet-sophisticated look bridges casual and refined rooms. Keep construction simple — busy piecing or heavy quilting can hide the embossing you bought it for.
How to Sew with It
Start by checking direction. Run your hand over the surface and look at it in good light: keep the embossed pattern and nap running the same way on every piece so panels match and the color reads evenly.
Mark and cut from the back with a rotary cutter or sharp scissors, and give cut pieces a shake outdoors or over a bin. Plush polyester sheds loose fluff from cut edges, and shaking first keeps it out of your machine.
Fit a walking foot. Thick, plush layers can creep under a regular presser foot, and a walking foot feeds them evenly. Lengthen your stitch to about 3.0 to 3.5mm — longer stitches sit better in plush pile, reduce puckering, and are easier to unpick.
Use clips instead of pins. Clips grip thick, slippery plush without leaving holes and are easy to remove as you sew. Sew slowly, support the fabric's weight so it does not drag your work off course, and avoid stretching it as it feeds.
Press gently, if at all. Avoid a hot iron directly on the plush face, which can crush the pile and flatten the embossing. Finger-press seams, or use a low iron with a press cloth on the back, lifting rather than sliding.
Care Instructions
Machine wash cold with like colors, and tumble dry on low or no heat. Skip fabric softener and dryer sheets — they coat polyester plush fibers and can dull the soft surface over time. Shake throws out well before drying so the pile lifts again. Handled this way, Silver Lining keeps its marbled depth, grey tone, and cozy warmth wash after wash.
