How to Use RNK Aqua Touch Markers: Precise Water and Starch Application for Quilters
Some quilting jobs need water or starch, but only a little — and only in exactly the right place. A spray bottle or a bowl of water can soak far more fabric than you intended. The RNK Aqua Touch Markers solve that problem. They are easy-to-use refillable pens designed to apply just a touch of liquid with precision, so you stay in control of where the moisture goes.
Each set includes three refillable markers: a 3mm tip, an 8mm tip, and a brush tip. That range lets you choose a fine point for a narrow edge, a broader tip for a longer line, or a soft brush for sweeping liquid along a fold. Fill a marker with plain water, or fill one with liquid starch or fabric stiffener when the job calls for a crisper result.
Why Quilters and Sewists Use Them
These markers were made to work hand in hand with water-soluble products. They are excellent for applying water with precision when you are using water-soluble stabilizers and foundations, and they are listed as perfect for use with RNK water-soluble products including Wet N Gone Tacky, Perfect Stitch Tearaway, Stitch N Wash, Print N Piece and Print N Piece Fusible Lite, and water-soluble toppers.
They are just as useful away from stabilizers. Filled with liquid starch or fabric stiffener, a marker can be brushed along appliqué edges or along fabric edges to create crisp fold lines — perfect for hems, tucks, or turned-edge appliqué, without starching the whole piece of fabric.
How to Use Them, Step by Step
- Choose your tip. Pick the 3mm tip for fine detail, the 8mm tip for broader coverage, or the brush tip for folds and edges.
- Fill the marker. Fill it with water for removing water-soluble products or markings, or with liquid starch or fabric stiffener for crisp folds. Do not fill it with glue or other adhesives — the markers are not for use with those products.
- To remove a water-soluble product: Dab the pen or brush along the edge of the water-soluble product, then gently pull away the excess. Work along the edge rather than soaking the whole area.
- For foundation piecing: Dab the marker tip or brush over the stitching line to dissolve the foundation paper, making the paper easier to remove.
- To remove water-soluble ink markings: Touch the marker to the marked line and dab gently until the marking dissolves, using only as much water as the line needs.
- For crisp folds: Brush liquid starch along the fabric edge, then fold and press the hem, tuck, or appliqué edge as your project requires.
- Replace the cap as soon as you finish. The product directions are clear on this point: replace marker caps when not in use.
Practical Tips
Start with less liquid than you think you need. The whole point of these markers is a touch of liquid, and you can always dab a second time. Keep one marker filled with water and another with starch so you are not emptying and refilling between tasks — just label them so you know which is which. Use the brush tip when you want a smooth, swept application along an edge, and the finer tips when you are working close to stitching you do not want to disturb. When removing stabilizer or foundation paper, support the fabric with your other hand and pull the excess away gently, rather than tugging at the stitching.
Care and Storage
Care is simple: replace the caps when not in use, and reserve them for water, liquid starch, and fabric stiffener only — never glue or adhesives. Store them capped with your marking tools, ready for the next project.
Project Ideas
Reach for Aqua Touch Markers when removing a water-soluble topper from embroidery, cleaning stabilizer from appliqué, taking foundation paper out of a pieced block, erasing water-soluble guide lines, or starching turned appliqué edges and garment hems and tucks. Wherever a project needs moisture in one small place, these markers put it there — and only there.
