Fusible Web, Fusible Tape and Adhesive Notions at Linda's Electric Quilters
Fusible web and fusible tape products are the backbone of applique quilting and no-sew construction — iron-on adhesive that bonds fabric layers together permanently or temporarily, enabling clean, precise applique without hand sewing. Linda's carries over 130 fusible products covering every application from delicate fine-web applique through heavy-duty garment bonding. Stabilizers and interfacings are covered in the Gypsy Quilter stabilizer guide, and the fusible-thread alternative in the Floriani specialty threads guide.
What is Fusible Web?
Fusible web is a heat-activated adhesive web — placed between two fabric layers and ironed, the heat melts the adhesive and bonds the fabrics. Available in paper-backed and non-paper-backed formats. Paper-backed fusible web allows you to trace a design on the paper, fuse to the fabric wrong side, cut precisely, remove the paper, and fuse the cut shape to the project — the standard approach for raw-edge applique.
Key Fusible Products
The fusible range at Linda's covers all major brands and formats:
- Sheet fusibles — full-size sheets for large applique pieces and garment bonding
- Fusible tape — narrow rolls (various widths) for hemming, seam securing, and precise binding
- Specialty fusibles — lightweight sheer fusibles for delicate fabrics, extra-firm for structured applications
- Gypsy Quilter Quilt-Tee Fusible — the 60"x72" sheet fusible for large T-shirt quilt and panel bonding projects
Choosing the Right Fusible
Light weight for delicate fabrics (sheer, batiks, Cuddle), standard weight for most quilting cotton applications, heavy for structured garments and bags. Temporary fusibles allow repositioning before final pressing; permanent fusibles create an unbreakable bond.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why did my applique edges go stiff?
Too heavy a fusible — standard-weight web under every appliqué layer builds cardboard. Use lightweight web for anything that will be stitched down anyway, and window the fusible (cut out its centre) on large shapes so only the edges bond.
Do raw-edge fused appliqués need stitching?
For anything washed, yes — fusible holds placement but repeated laundering lifts unstitched edges. A blanket stitch, straight edge-stitch, or free-motion outline seals the edge permanently; wall pieces that never wash can skip it.
What's the mirror-image trap in fusible appliqué?
Designs traced onto paper-backed web fuse to the fabric's wrong side — so the finished shape flips. Trace letters and directional shapes reversed, and every appliqué lands facing the right way.
