100% Natural Cotton — The Heritage Batting
The Hobbs Heirloom 100% Natural Cotton with Scrim is unbleached natural cotton — the warm, slightly tan natural colour that was standard in heirloom quilts before bleaching became common. For heritage reproduction fabrics, vintage-palette quilts, and any natural-aesthetic quilt where the slightly warm batting base enhances rather than competes with the fabric design, this is the authentic cotton batting choice.
The Role of Scrim
The scrim layer — a light bonded interfacing at the batting's center — provides stability during longarm quilting, preventing the cotton from migrating or shifting through open fabric weaves. Scrim-stabilized cotton is easier to work with at longarm speed and provides more consistent quilting than unsupported cotton.
