Description
Hobbs Heirloom 100% Natural Cotton with Scrim is for quilters who want a pure cotton batting with extra strength. Clean, long-staple, unbleached cotton is needle-punched into a very thin polyester scrim that stops the batting stretching or distorting on the frame. The 96" x 30 yard roll covers queen tops and smaller in one piece; for king use the 120" roll.
It is low-loft and soft, and gets softer with every wash. Because the cotton is unbleached it suits medium and dark fabrics best; for white tops use the bleached version.

Compare and choose
- What does the scrim do?
- The scrim is a very thin polyester stabilizer layer that the cotton is needled into. It keeps the batting from stretching, tearing or distorting when it is loaded on a longarm frame, and it lets you quilt up to 4" apart. Without a scrim, 100% cotton usually needs 2-3" quilting.
- 100% cotton with scrim vs Hobbs 80/20?
- Both are low-loft and shrink 3-5%. The 80/20 is softer with more drape and a touch more loft; the 100% cotton is flatter, firmer and all-natural fiber apart from the scrim. Choose cotton for a traditional flat antique look, 80/20 for softness. Hobbs 80/20 96" roll
- Hobbs 100% cotton vs Warm & Natural?
- They are close cousins: both needle-punched cotton with a scrim. Warm & Natural is a little denser and allows up to 10" between stitches; Hobbs Heirloom cotton is slightly softer and specifies 4". Price per yard is similar. Warm & Natural 90" x 40 yd roll
- 96" vs 108" vs 120": which width for my quilt?
- Pick a batting at least 4" wider than the shorter side of your quilt top. A queen top (about 90" x 108") fits a 96" roll with the 108" running along the roll. A king top (108" to 120" wide) does not fit a 96" roll in one piece; use a 120" roll. 120" roll
- Do you ship batting rolls to Alaska or Hawaii?
- No. Rolls and boards ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations. Shop packaged batting
- Do I need to pre-wash this batting?
- No. Pre-washing is not recommended. Expect 3-5% shrinkage in the first wash, which gives the soft, crinkled finish most quilters want.
