The one rule: pair any metallic with a topstitch or metallic needle one size up, slow down 20%, and it behaves. For invisible work in the other direction, Monofil transparent disappears entirely - stitch-in-the-ditch's best friend.

- Why does my metallic thread keep breaking, and will Madeira fix it?
- Most metallic failure is friction: a standard needle's small eye saws the foil wrap. Madeira's construction resists it better than most, but still use a 90/14 topstitch or metallica needle, loosen top tension slightly, and slow down. The Smooth finish is the most machine-tolerant of the three.
- Which Cotona weight should a beginner buy?
- Cotona 50. It pieces, quilts, and binds - one thread for the whole quilt. Add 30 when you want the stitches to show and 80 when you want them to vanish.
- Are the treasure chests refillable?
- Yes - they are proper wooden drawer chests sized to Madeira spools, so they store your growing collection long after the original spools are sewn up.
