Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 and standard Steam-A-Seam 2?
Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 creates a softer, more flexible bond that is easier to stitch through by hand or machine. Standard Steam-A-Seam 2 creates a firmer bond best for projects that won’t be stitched or need maximum hold. For appliqué that will be stitched around the edges, Lite is the recommended choice.
Can I hand-position appliqué shapes before fusing?
Yes — Steam-A-Seam 2 has a pressure-sensitive adhesive on both sides that allows you to temporarily stick the appliqué to the background fabric for placement before final pressing. If you change your mind, you can reposition before the final iron.
Does Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 work with a standard household iron?
Yes — use a dry iron at the cotton setting, pressing firmly for 10–15 seconds per area. Follow the included instructions for best results. Some fabrics may need a pressing cloth to prevent surface damage.
Is this product safe for use with a longarm quilting machine?
Fused appliqué made with Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 can be longarm quilted. The lite formula creates a flexible bond that allows the needle to pass through without gumming up the needle or thread.
How do I trace applique patterns onto Lite Steam-A-Seam 2?
Trace your pattern onto the paper side of the fusible web, cut out leaving a small margin, and fuse to the wrong side of your appliqué fabric. Cut out on the traced line, peel the paper, position, and fuse to the background.
