Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Warm & Natural the most trusted cotton batting brand?
Warm & Natural has been the go-to batting for hand quilters and longarm quilters for generations. Its consistent quality, natural unbleached cotton, and proven compatibility with both hand and machine quilting makes it the reference standard by which other battings are measured.
Does Warm & Natural need to be pre-washed?
Warm & Natural can be used without pre-washing, but the quilt will shrink slightly after the first wash (approximately 3–5%), creating the desirable slightly puckered look of an antique quilt. If you want a flat finish, pre-wash the batting before use.
Is Warm & Natural appropriate for longarm quilting?
Yes — Warm & Natural is widely used on longarms. The scrim provides stability during loading and stitching. Most longarm quilters find it feeds and quilts smoothly without requiring special tension adjustments.
How does the 20-yard roll compare to the 40-yard roll in value?
The 40-yard roll provides the most economical per-yard pricing for high-volume studios. The 20-yard roll is practical for studios quilting a moderate volume of quilts. Choose based on your quilting frequency and storage capacity.
What is the recommended stitch spacing for Warm & Natural?
The Warm Company recommends stitching within 10" for Warm & Natural. This is generous and allows for a wide range of quilting designs from dense to open.
