Description

Bliss 100% Bamboo is made from bamboo viscose fiber bonded to a thin polyester scrim. It is the softest batting in the Bliss family, with a smooth hand and a drape that is closer to a good blanket than to a stiff quilt. Quilters choose it for throws and bed quilts that get used, for garments, and for anyone who finds cotton a little too firm. This throw package is a single 60" x 60" batt, sized for square lap quilts, large baby quilts and wall quilts up to about 56" x 56".

It weighs 4 oz per square yard and adds very little bulk, so stitch definition stays crisp. The scrim stops the bamboo from stretching or bunching while you baste and quilt, and lets you space stitches up to 8" apart by hand or machine. Bamboo breathes and regulates temperature well, and the fiber is unbleached. Therm O Web recommends pre-washing by hand; otherwise wash the finished quilt cold on delicate and tumble dry low, with under 5% shrinkage. Made in the USA of imported fiber.

Use the crib 45" x 60" for a smaller project, or the throw plus 60" x 72" for a larger top. This listing ships from our distributor partner; the same batt is also sold here under the Therm O Web listing, so check both if one is out of stock.

Throw 60" x 60" or Throw Plus 60" x 72": which do I need?
Measure your top. The 60" square covers tops up to about 56" x 56", which suits most lap quilts and large baby quilts. If your throw is longer than it is wide, the 60" x 72" Throw Plus covers tops up to about 56" x 68" and is the better sofa-throw size. Bliss 100% Bamboo Throw Plus 60" x 72"
Bliss 100% Bamboo vs Quilters Dream Bamboo: what is the difference?
Quilters Dream Bamboo is a blend of bamboo, Tussah silk, Tencel and cotton with no scrim, in a soft cream color. Bliss is all bamboo viscose on a thin polyester scrim, which makes it a little more stable to handle and lets it be quilted up to 8" apart. Both are soft, drapey and low loft; Dream Bamboo is the stocked choice for hand quilters who prefer no scrim at all. Quilters Dream Bamboo package
Bamboo or cotton batting for a bed quilt?
Bamboo is softer, drapes more and feels cooler against the skin, so it is the better choice for a quilt that gets slept under. Cotton is firmer, more traditional, and crinkles more after washing. If you want the Bliss hand in cotton, the 100% Cotton version comes in the same sizes. Bliss 100% Cotton throw
Do I need to pre-wash Bliss batting?
Therm O Web recommends pre-washing by hand: soak it in a tub of cool water, squeeze gently, and let it dry flat. Most of our customers skip it and let the finished quilt shrink under 5% in the first wash, which gives a soft, lightly crinkled finish. Either way, wash the finished quilt cold on delicate and tumble dry low.
How far apart can I quilt it?
Up to 8" apart by hand or machine, and as close as you like. That is wider than Hobbs 80/20 (4") and gives a lot of freedom for simple wavy lines or widely spaced blocks on a big quilt.
Is bamboo batting microwave-safe for bowl cozies?
No. Bliss Bamboo carries a polyester scrim, and bamboo viscose itself is not rated for microwave use. For bowl cozies and hot pads use a 100% cotton batting with no scrim, with cotton fabric and cotton thread, or Pellon Wrap-N-Zap. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap microwaveable batting
Why do you list this batt twice?
This listing ships from our distributor partner, and the other is the same Therm O Web batt sold from a different source. The product is identical. If one shows out of stock, order the other. Bliss 100% Bamboo throw, Therm O Web listing
