Description

In-R-Form Single Sided is Bosal's soft foam stabilizer with fusible adhesive on one side. The foam is easy to work with and can be sewn by machine or by hand. Fuse it to the wrong side of your fabric to add body to handbags, quilts and other handmade crafts. This package is one 18" x 58" piece in off-white.

Off-white suits light and mid-tone fabrics. For dark bags, where pale foam can peek out at seams and openings, use the black version.

The 18" x 58" piece covers a purse or small tote; for bigger bags buy the 36" x 58".

Compare and choose

Black or off-white In-R-Form: which do I need?
Match the foam to your fabric. Black hides behind dark fabrics so nothing light shows at seams, handles and openings. Off-white is right for light and medium fabrics, where black could shadow through thin cottons. Black 18" x 58"
Which side is fusible?
The fusible side has a slightly rough, glossy feel from the adhesive; the other side does not. Place the fabric wrong side down on the fusible side and press. If you are unsure, test a corner with a scrap first.
How do I fuse In-R-Form?
Lay the fabric wrong side down on the fusible side and press with a hot iron, following the directions on the package. Lift and set the iron down rather than gliding, so the foam and fabric do not shift, until the fabric is bonded across the whole piece. Test on a scrap first, and let it cool before handling so the bond sets.
Single-sided or double-sided fusible: which do I need?
Double-sided fusible lets you fuse an outer fabric to one side and a lining to the other in one step, which is how quilt-as-you-go bags, baskets and pattern precuts are built. Single-sided fusible bonds to one fabric only, so you sew in the lining or leave the back raw inside. Use double-sided when both faces show, single-sided when one side is hidden. In-R-Form Plus double-sided 18" x 58"
In-R-Form vs Soft and Stable vs Flex-Foam: which foam should I use?
All three give bags structure without stiffness. In-R-Form is Bosal's foam laminated to a soft knit and comes sew-in, single-sided fusible or double-sided fusible. Soft and Stable from ByAnnie is a sew-in foam sold in 58" long pieces. Pellon Flex-Foam comes on 20" x 10 yard bolts in sew-in, one-sided and two-sided fusible versions. Pick by pattern: if the pattern calls for one by name, buy that one. Soft and Stable white 18" x 58"
Can I use In-R-Form in a microwave bowl cozy or hot pad?
No. In-R-Form is a polyester foam with fusible adhesive, and foam and fusibles are not microwave-safe. For microwave bowl cozies use 100% cotton batting with cotton thread, and for hot pads use a heat-resistant insulated batting with cotton batting.
