Description
RNK Embroidery Batting is a stable cotton/poly blend made for machine embroiderers who quilt in the hoop. It is needle-punched to a high standard to prevent stretch, puckering and shrinkage, and the stabilizer is effectively built in: for light or dense embroidery you do not need to add a separate stabilizer.
The 60" x 3-yard piece covers a run of in-the-hoop projects, a couple of bags, or a crib-size quilt with yardage left over. Our customers use it for purses and handbags, quilt-in-the-hoop blocks, baby items, jackets, vests and home dec, and it works between layers as ordinary quilt batting too.
For quilt-in-the-hoop, cut the batting at least 1" larger than your embroidery frame, place the backing fabric behind it (wrong side to the batting) cut at least 1" larger again, and hoop both layers firmly so they are taut. When stitching heavily or embellishing, cut the batting at least 1" larger than the finished size.

Compare and choose
- Do I still need a stabilizer with this batting?
- No. RNK needle-punches this cotton/poly batting so the stabilizer is effectively built in, whether your design is light or densely stitched. Hoop the batting with your backing fabric, keep both layers taut, and stitch.
- 3 yards or the 15-yard roll?
- Three yards (60" x 108") covers about two crib quilts or a stack of hoop projects. If you quilt in the hoop every week, the 15-yard roll gives you five times the batting in one piece. 60" x 15 yd roll
- How big should I cut it for the hoop?
- Cut the batting at least 1" larger than your embroidery frame, and cut the backing fabric at least 1" larger than the batting. Hoop the two layers together firmly. For heavy stitching or embellishment, cut at least 1" larger than the finished size you need.
- RNK Embroidery Batting vs Gypsy Quilter Embroidery Batting?
- Both are made to hoop without extra stabilizer. Gypsy Quilter is a cotton batting with scrim on narrow 10" to 24" rolls, pre-sized for hoops and rated to about 8,000 stitches per layer. RNK is a cotton/poly blend on 60" and 122" widths, so you can cut hoop pieces or whole bags and quilts from it. Gypsy Quilter Embroidery Batting 12"
- Embroidery batting or regular quilt batting for in-the-hoop work?
- Ordinary quilt batting can stretch and pucker under dense embroidery unless you add stabilizer. Embroidery batting is needle-punched firmly enough to hold dense stitching on its own. For a full-size bed quilt quilted on a longarm, a regular batting such as Linda's Deluxe is the more economical choice. Linda's Deluxe by the yard
- How do I wash projects made with it?
- Machine or hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent. Machine dry on low or no heat, or hang to dry. If you press the project, keep the iron on a low setting.
- Can I use it for microwave bowl cozies?
- No. It contains polyester, which is not safe in the microwave. Use 100% cotton batting made for it, such as Pellon Wrap-N-Zap. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
