Description
Soft and Stable from ByAnnie is a 100% polyester foam stabilizer with fabric on both sides. Use it in place of batting or other stabilizers in purses, bags, totes and more for lasting body and stability: it is lightweight, holds its shape, and gives the finished piece a professional look. It is sew-in, so you quilt or baste it to your fabric, and the finished project is washer and dryer safe.
The 36" x 58" piece covers a full-size tote or a couple of smaller bags. Each piece is about 0.175" thick. Black is the color to use under dark fabrics so the stabilizer does not show at seams; for light fabrics choose Soft and Stable White.

- Choose black under dark fabrics so nothing light peeks through at seams or binding, and white under light or bright fabrics. The foam is otherwise the same. Soft and Stable White 18" x 58"
- Soft and Stable vs Pellon Flex-Foam: which is better for bags?
- Both are polyester foams for structured bags. Soft and Stable is sew-in with fabric on both sides and is known for a soft, smooth finish. Pellon Flex-Foam comes sew-in, one-sided fusible or two-sided fusible on 20" bolts. If you want to fuse instead of quilting, Flex-Foam fusible; if you want to quilt the panels, either works. - Is Soft and Stable fusible?
- No. It is sew-in. Quilt or baste it to your outer fabric, or spray-baste first if you like. If you want a fusible foam, look at In-R-Form Plus or Pellon Flex-Foam fusible. In-R-Form Plus double-sided 36" x 58"
- Can I wash a bag made with Soft and Stable?
- Yes. Soft and Stable is washer and dryer safe. Follow the care instructions for your outer fabric and lining.
- Which size do I need: 18", 36" or 72" x 58"?
- Check your pattern's requirements. As a rule, 18" x 58" covers a pouch, small bag or set of placemats; 36" x 58" covers a full-size tote; 72" x 58" covers several bags or a large duffel. Black 72" x 58"
- Can I use Soft and Stable in a microwave bowl cozy?
