🪡 Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cut the Fabric Pieces
Cut two 18" x 18" fabric squares — one for the front and one for the back. For the quilted top, cut smaller pieces for a patchwork design or use a single fabric you can quilt directly.
2. Prepare the Quilted Top
If making patchwork, cut your fabrics into squares or strips. Arrange them in your preferred pattern, pin in place, and sew together to create your top panel.
3. Layer the Quilted Top
On a flat surface, layer batting on the bottom, your quilted top on top of it, and the pillow backing fabric beneath the batting. Pin securely.
4. Quilt the Layers
Quilt the layers together using straight lines, a grid pattern, or your favorite quilting design. Be sure to sew around the edges to secure all layers.
5. Trim the Edges
After quilting, trim any excess batting or fabric for a neat edge.
6. Attach the Pillow Back
Place the backing fabric right sides together with the quilted front. Pin, then sew a ¼-inch seam around the edges, leaving a small opening for inserting the pillow form.
7. Insert the Pillow Form
Turn the cover right side out, insert the pillow form, and adjust until it sits evenly.
8. Close the Opening
Sew the opening closed by hand or machine for a clean finish.
✨ Finished Product
You’ve just created a beautiful quilted pillow cover that adds instant warmth and personality to any space. Make multiples in different colors and patterns to match the seasons or your home décor style.
