Frequently Asked Questions

What makes wool batting superior to polyester for bed quilts?

Wool naturally regulates temperature — it wicks moisture, breathes, and adjusts to the sleeper’s body temperature far better than synthetic batting. A wool quilt is warm in winter without overheating and comfortable in summer. These properties make wool the premier choice for quilts intended for daily use.

Is Hobbs Heirloom Wool machine washable?

Yes — Hobbs treats their Heirloom Wool batting for washability. Use gentle cycle, cold water, and low-heat drying. Always follow the specific care instructions included with the package.

What stitch spacing is required?

Hobbs recommends quilting within 4" for wool batting. This tighter spacing helps secure the wool fibers and prevents migration with use and washing.

What sizes are available?

Standard quilt sizes from crib through king. Check the current Linda’s listing for available sizes.

Is wool batting more expensive than cotton or polyester?

Yes — wool is a premium natural fiber with higher cost than cotton or polyester. However, wool’s superior warmth-to-weight ratio, loft recovery, and breathability justify the investment for quilts intended for regular use or as heirloom pieces.
