Description

This is the Queen package of Bliss 100% Cotton Batting by Therm O Web: one pre-cut piece, 108" x 96". Allow at least 2" of batting beyond every edge of the top, so this size covers queen tops up to about 92" x 104", and it also works for most oversize full quilts. If your top is larger than that, step up to the King 120" x 120".

Bliss 100% Cotton is a mid-loft, 4 oz per square yard batting made from USA-grown long-staple cotton with no scrim, glue, resin or binder in it. It is the choice for quilters who want the classic all-cotton feel: breathable, cool in summer, and it softens into the crinkled, antique look after the first wash. Hand quilters like how it needles because there is no scrim to push through, and machine and longarm quilters get clean stitch definition without bulk.

Because there is no scrim, quilt it no more than 8" apart, hand or machine. Therm O Web recommends pre-washing by hand; shrinkage is under 5% either way, and if you skip the pre-wash the finished quilt washes cold on the delicate cycle and tumbles dry low. For a softer, slightly loftier blend with the same 8" spacing, see the Bliss 80/20 in this size.

Compare and choose

Queen 108" x 96" or King 120" x 120"?
Run the 108" side along the length of the quilt. A queen top around 90" wide and up to about 104" long fits with margin. If the top is wider than about 92" or longer than 104", go to the King 120" x 120" rather than piecing batting. King 120" x 120"
Bliss 100% Cotton vs Bliss 80/20: which should I buy?
Both are 4 oz, scrim-free, quilt up to 8" apart and shrink under 5%. The 100% Cotton is flatter, cooler and all-natural, and it crinkles into the antique look after washing. The 80/20 adds a little loft and spring from the polyester, shows quilting lines more and resists bearding, and it is easier for beginners to handle. For a traditional hand-quilted or heirloom feel choose this cotton; for an everyday quilt that gets washed a lot choose the 80/20. Bliss 80/20 Queen 108" x 96"
Bliss 100% Cotton vs Warm & Natural or Hobbs Heirloom cotton?
Warm & Natural and Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton are both needle-punched cotton on a scrim: firmer, flatter and very stable, with Warm & Natural quilting up to 10" apart. Bliss 100% Cotton has no scrim, so it is softer, drapes more and needles more easily by hand, but it must be quilted within 8". Pick Bliss for drape and hand quilting; pick a scrim cotton for wall hangings and wide stitch spacing. Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton packages
Can I use Bliss 100% Cotton for hot pads and bowl cozies?
It is 100% cotton with no scrim and no polyester, so it can go in the microwave when the fabric and thread are 100% cotton too. If you make a lot of microwave projects, Pellon Wrap-N-Zap is made specifically for that job and is the safer default. Never use the Bliss 80/20 or Bamboo in the microwave; both contain polyester. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
Do I need to pre-wash Bliss batting?
Therm O Web recommends pre-washing by hand, and most of our customers who want a flat, modern finish do. Shrinkage is under 5% either way. If you skip it, wash the finished quilt in cold water on the delicate cycle and tumble dry low; the slight shrink gives the soft, crinkled look.
How far apart can I quilt it, and does it work for hand quilting?
Up to 8" apart, by hand or machine. There is no scrim, so hand quilters find it easy to needle; keep the 8" spacing to stop the batting shifting in the wash.
