Description

Bliss 100% Cotton is a needle-punched, all-cotton batting with no scrim, resin, glue or binder in it: just USA-grown long-staple cotton. It is the batting to reach for when you want a traditional quilt that softens and crinkles with every wash, and when you want a batting that can be quilted by hand as easily as by longarm. This queen package is a single 108" x 96" batt, sized for queen bed quilts up to about 104" x 92"; most queen tops run 90" x 108", so the 108" side goes along the length of the quilt.

It is a 4 oz, mid-loft cotton, so it quilts flat, shows stitch definition well, and breathes for year-round comfort. Because there is no scrim, the stitches can run as close as you like or up to 8" apart, and the batt drapes rather than boards up. Therm O Web recommends pre-washing by hand; if you skip that, expect under 5% shrinkage in the first wash of the finished quilt, which is where the antique crinkle comes from. Made in the USA.

Use the full 90" x 96" for a smaller project, or the king 120" x 120" for a larger top. This listing ships from our distributor partner; the same batt is also sold here under the Therm O Web listing, so check both if one is out of stock.

Compare and choose

Do I need the king batt for a queen bed with a thick mattress?
Usually not. The queen batt is 108" x 96", so it covers tops up to about 92" x 104" with the 108" side along the length. If your queen top is wider than about 92" because you added a deep drop, the 120" x 120" king gives you the margin in one piece. Bliss 100% Cotton king 120" x 120"
Bliss 100% Cotton vs Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton: what is the difference?
Hobbs Heirloom cotton is needle-punched onto a scrim, which makes it firmer and more stable on a longarm frame. Bliss leaves the scrim out, so it is softer and drapes more, and it can be hand quilted more easily. Both are natural, unbleached cotton with similar shrinkage. Choose Hobbs for frame work and flat wall quilts; choose Bliss for a soft bed quilt or hand quilting. Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton package
Bliss 100% Cotton vs Warm & Natural: which should I buy?
Warm & Natural is needle-punched cotton with a scrim: flatter, firmer, and it can be quilted up to 10" apart. Bliss has no scrim, so it is softer with a bit more loft, and it needs stitching within 8". For wall hangings and projects that must stay flat, pick Warm & Natural; for a quilt you want to wrap up in, pick Bliss. Warm & Natural packages
Do I need to pre-wash Bliss batting?
Therm O Web recommends pre-washing by hand: soak it in a tub of cool water, squeeze gently, and let it dry flat. Most of our customers skip it and let the finished quilt shrink under 5% in the first wash, which gives a soft, lightly crinkled finish. Either way, wash the finished quilt cold on delicate and tumble dry low.
How far apart can I quilt it?
Up to 8" apart by hand or machine, and as close as you like. That is wider than Hobbs 80/20 (4") and gives a lot of freedom for simple wavy lines or widely spaced blocks on a big quilt.
Can I use Bliss 100% Cotton for hot pads and microwave bowl cozies?
Yes, with care. It is 100% cotton with no scrim, resin or polyester, so there is nothing in the batt itself to melt or scorch. Use 100% cotton fabric and cotton thread, and never run a microwave cozy with polyester anywhere in it. If you make a lot of them, Pellon Wrap-N-Zap is made specifically for the job. Why do you list this batt twice?
This listing ships from our distributor partner, and the other is the same Therm O Web batt sold from a different source. The product is identical. If one shows out of stock, order the other. Bliss 100% Cotton queen, Therm O Web listing
