Description

Warm & Natural pre-cut packages are the one-quilt way to buy the most widely used cotton batting in America. Pick the size that matches your top: Baby 45" x 60", Twin 72" x 90", Full 90" x 96", Queen 90" x 108" or King 124" x 120". Packages ship to any address. If you go through several quilts a year, the 90" roll or a full case of packages costs less per quilt.

Warm & Natural is 100% US-grown cotton needle-punched through a thin polypropylene scrim. The scrim holds the fibers so the batt will not separate, bunch, shift or beard, and it lets you quilt or tie up to 10" apart. It is low loft and firm, so it stays flat in a hoop or on a frame and shows stitch definition clearly. The cotton is mechanically cleaned, not bleached, so small flecks of cotton plant are normal and do not harm the quilt. Under white or pastel fabric choose Warm & White instead. No resins or glues.

Pre-washing is not required. Quilt straight from the package, then machine wash and dry the finished quilt: about 3% shrinkage in cold water, about 5% in warm water for a more puckered, antique look. Warm & Natural also works as a craft fabric on its own for stuffed snowmen, rabbits and other dimensional projects.

Which package size do I need?
Measure your finished quilt top and add at least 3" to 4" on every side; the batting should be larger than the top, not equal to it. A 60" x 80" throw needs the Twin (72" x 90"). An 86" x 100" top needs the Queen (90" x 108") only if you can live with a tight margin; otherwise go to King. When in doubt, buy one size up and trim.
Package or roll: which is the better buy?
For one or two quilts a year, the package. It is cut to size, needs no storage, and ships to every address. For a quilter who finishes a quilt a month or a longarmer, the 90" roll is the same batting at a much lower cost per quilt. Warm & Natural 90" x 40 yd roll
Warm & Natural vs Quilters Dream Select cotton package: which is softer?
Quilters Dream Select is a scrim-free needle-punched cotton, so it is softer and drapes more; it also needs closer quilting (Quilters Dream rates it to 8"). Warm & Natural has a polypropylene scrim, is firmer, flatter, and can be quilted up to 10" apart. For a soft bed quilt, Dream Select; for a wall hanging, a tied quilt, or anything that must stay square, Warm & Natural. Quilters Dream Select Natural Cotton package
Warm & Natural vs Hobbs Heirloom 100% cotton with scrim: what is the difference?
Both are needle-punched cotton on a scrim, both low loft, both shrink about 3% on first wash. Warm & Natural uses a polypropylene scrim and is rated for quilting up to 10" apart; it is the firmer, flatter of the two and the one most of our customers reach for on wall hangings and anything that must stay square. Hobbs Heirloom cotton with scrim is a touch softer in the hand and Hobbs asks for stitching within 4". Pick Warm & Natural when you want wide stitch spacing or maximum stability; pick Hobbs when drape matters more. Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton with Scrim 96" roll
Warm & Natural or Warm & White: which should I buy?
They are the same needle-punched cotton. Warm & Natural is unbleached and cream colored with small flecks of cotton plant left in; it is right under medium and dark fabrics and most prints. Warm & White is purified white cotton with no flecks and is the one to use under white, pastel and light tone-on-tone tops, where a cream batt can shadow through. Warm & White batting
How far apart can I quilt Warm & Natural?
Up to 10" between quilting lines or ties. The polypropylene scrim holds the cotton together, so you can use wide, open designs that would bunch in a scrim-free batting. Closer quilting is fine too; the batt stays flat either way.
Can I use Warm & Natural for microwave bowl cozies or hot pads?
Not in the microwave. Warm & Natural has a polypropylene scrim, and polypropylene can melt or scorch under microwave heat. For bowl cozies, potato bags and anything that goes in the microwave use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap with cotton thread and cotton fabric. Warm & Natural is fine for ordinary oven mitts and trivets that never see the microwave. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap microwave-safe batting
