Description

This is the roll our longarm customers buy most: Warm & Natural at 90" wide by 40 yards, enough for about thirteen queen quilts at the lowest cost per yard we offer on this batting. It covers queen and smaller in one piece. If you quilt king tops, you want the 124" x 30 yd roll; if 40 yards is more than you will use in a year or two, the 20-yard roll is the same batting in a smaller commitment.

Warm & Natural is 100% unbleached cotton needle-punched into a thin polypropylene support layer. The scrim keeps it from shifting, bunching or bearding on the frame and lets you quilt or tie up to 10" apart. It loads flat, holds its shape under tension and shows stitch definition well. The hand is firm rather than drapey; customers who want a softer feel from a pure cotton look at Warm & Plush, and those who want more drape move to the Warm 80/20 blend. No resins or glues.

No pre-washing. Quilt straight from the roll and wash the finished quilt: about 3% shrinkage in cold water, about 5% in warm water for a more pronounced antique pucker.

Compare and choose

Is 90" wide enough for a queen, or should I buy the 124" roll?
A standard queen top (about 90" x 108") fits with the 108" running along the roll, but with zero spare width. Longarmers usually want 3" to 4" of batting beyond the top on each side so the clamps have something to grab. If that describes you, or you quilt king tops, buy the 124" roll and cut queens from it with room to spare. Warm & Natural 124" x 30 yd roll
Warm & Natural vs Warm 80/20 blend: which do longarmers prefer?
Warm & Natural is all cotton on a scrim: flatter, firmer, 10" stitch spacing, about 3% shrinkage. Warm 80/20 adds polyester for a softer, slightly loftier quilt with more drape. Customers who quilt wall hangings, modern quilts with dense designs, or anything that must hang straight choose Warm & Natural. Customers quilting cozy bed quilts for everyday use often prefer the blend. Warm 80/20 Blend 110" x 25 yd roll
How many queen quilts will I get from this roll?
About thirteen. Forty yards is 1,440"; a queen cut uses 108" of length, so 13 cuts with a little left over for runners or a baby quilt. Twin cuts (72" x 90") run about 20 per roll.
Warm & Natural vs Hobbs Heirloom 100% cotton with scrim: what is the difference?
Both are needle-punched cotton on a scrim, both low loft, both shrink about 3% on first wash. Warm & Natural uses a polypropylene scrim and is rated for quilting up to 10" apart; it is the firmer, flatter of the two and the one most of our customers reach for on wall hangings and anything that must stay square. Hobbs Heirloom cotton with scrim is a touch softer in the hand and Hobbs asks for stitching within 4". Pick Warm & Natural when you want wide stitch spacing or maximum stability; pick Hobbs when drape matters more. Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton with Scrim 96" roll
Warm & Natural or Warm & White: which should I buy?
They are the same needle-punched cotton. Warm & Natural is unbleached and cream colored with small flecks of cotton plant left in; it is right under medium and dark fabrics and most prints. Warm & White is purified white cotton with no flecks and is the one to use under white, pastel and light tone-on-tone tops, where a cream batt can shadow through. Warm & White batting
How far apart can I quilt Warm & Natural?
Up to 10" between quilting lines or ties. The polypropylene scrim holds the cotton together, so you can use wide, open designs that would bunch in a scrim-free batting. Closer quilting is fine too; the batt stays flat either way.
Can I use Warm & Natural for microwave bowl cozies or hot pads?
Not in the microwave. Warm & Natural has a polypropylene scrim, and polypropylene can melt or scorch under microwave heat. For bowl cozies, potato bags and anything that goes in the microwave use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap with cotton thread and cotton fabric. Warm & Natural is fine for ordinary oven mitts and trivets that never see the microwave. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap microwave-safe batting
