Description

Buy this roll if you quilt king tops. At 124" wide it covers a 120" king in one piece with a couple of inches to spare, and queen tops with a generous margin for longarm clamps. Thirty yards is about nine king cuts or twelve queens. If you never see a king, the 90" x 40 yd roll is the cheaper way to buy the same batting.

Warm & Natural is 100% unbleached cotton needle-punched through a thin polypropylene scrim. It is the flattest, most stable cotton batting we sell: no shifting, bunching or bearding on the frame, and you can quilt or tie up to 10" apart. Expect a firm hand and crisp stitch definition. The cotton is mechanically cleaned rather than bleached, so small flecks of cotton plant are normal; under white fabric use Warm & White. No resins or glues.

No pre-washing. Quilt straight from the roll and wash the finished quilt: about 3% shrinkage in cold water, about 5% in warm water if you want the antique pucker.

Compare and choose

Do I need the 124" roll for a king quilt?
Yes, if you want one piece of batting. A king top is about 120" wide, so a 90" roll has to be pieced. The 124" width covers it with 4" to spare. It also gives queen tops the extra margin longarmers like for clamping. Warm & Natural 90" x 40 yd roll
124" roll vs the King pre-cut package: which should I buy?
One king quilt a year: buy the 124" x 120" king package, which ships anywhere. Several kings or a mix of kings and queens: the roll is far cheaper per quilt and you cut each piece to size. Warm & Natural pre-cut packages (king 124" x 120")
Warm & Natural 124" vs Hobbs Heirloom cotton 120": which king roll?
Both are 100% cotton with scrim at king width. Warm & Natural is 4" wider, firmer, and rated for 10" stitch spacing; Hobbs is a bit softer and should be quilted within 4". For an edge-to-edge pantograph with open areas, Warm & Natural gives more freedom. For a soft, drapey heirloom, Hobbs. Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton with Scrim 120" roll
Warm & Natural vs Hobbs Heirloom 100% cotton with scrim: what is the difference?
Both are needle-punched cotton on a scrim, both low loft, both shrink about 3% on first wash. Warm & Natural uses a polypropylene scrim and is rated for quilting up to 10" apart; it is the firmer, flatter of the two and the one most of our customers reach for on wall hangings and anything that must stay square. Hobbs Heirloom cotton with scrim is a touch softer in the hand and Hobbs asks for stitching within 4". Pick Warm & Natural when you want wide stitch spacing or maximum stability; pick Hobbs when drape matters more. Hobbs Heirloom 100% Cotton with Scrim 96" roll
Warm & Natural or Warm & White: which should I buy?
They are the same needle-punched cotton. Warm & Natural is unbleached and cream colored with small flecks of cotton plant left in; it is right under medium and dark fabrics and most prints. Warm & White is purified white cotton with no flecks and is the one to use under white, pastel and light tone-on-tone tops, where a cream batt can shadow through. Warm & White batting
How far apart can I quilt Warm & Natural?
Up to 10" between quilting lines or ties. The polypropylene scrim holds the cotton together, so you can use wide, open designs that would bunch in a scrim-free batting. Closer quilting is fine too; the batt stays flat either way.
Can I use Warm & Natural for microwave bowl cozies or hot pads?
Not in the microwave. Warm & Natural has a polypropylene scrim, and polypropylene can melt or scorch under microwave heat. For bowl cozies, potato bags and anything that goes in the microwave use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap with cotton thread and cotton fabric. Warm & Natural is fine for ordinary oven mitts and trivets that never see the microwave. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap microwave-safe batting
Do you ship batting rolls to Alaska or Hawaii?
No. Rolls and boards ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations. Shop packaged batting
