Description

Pellon Wrap-N-Zap microwaveable cotton batting on a 90" x 9 yard bolt is the production format for cozy and hot-pad makers: nine 10" squares across the width and 32 rows along the length, roughly 290 squares per bolt. It is also the only Wrap-N-Zap format wide enough to cut large casserole carriers and table-size pieces without seams. For smaller quantities see the 22" x 10 yd roll or the 45" x 1 yd package.

Wrap-N-Zap is the only batting we sell that is made for the microwave. Because it is all natural cotton with no scrim, no polyester and no metallic content, it will not melt or spark. Use it to craft casserole warmers, hot pads, potato bags and oven mitts, or to steam vegetables and corn and warm buns, tortillas and rolls. The loft is a low 1/16", shrinkage is 3-5%, and the recommended maximum stitch distance is 4". Washable by hand or machine and dry cleanable. Sew it with 100% cotton thread and 100% cotton fabric so the whole project stays microwave-safe.

This bolt ships to you directly from Pellon.

Compare and choose

How many bowl cozies will a 90" x 9 yard bolt make?
Nine 10" squares fit across 90", and 324" of length gives 32 rows: about 288 squares, or roughly 144 bowl cozies at two squares each.
Can I use Wrap-N-Zap as a regular quilt batting?
You can; it is a thin 100% cotton batting with a 4" quilting distance and 3-5% shrinkage, and 90" covers a queen top. But it has no scrim, so it needs closer quilting than Pellon cotton with scrim, and it costs more per yard. Buy it for microwave projects; for quilts, Pellon natural cotton with scrim is the better value. Pellon Natural Cotton with Scrim 90" x 40 yd roll
90" bolt or 22" roll?
The 22" roll is handy and cuts two cozy squares across with no waste. The 90" bolt holds about four times as much batting and costs less per square, so it is the right buy for anyone sewing cozies for sale. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 22" x 10 yd roll
Why can't I use regular cotton batting in the microwave?
Most cotton battings, including Pellon natural and white cotton with scrim and Warm & Natural, carry a polypropylene scrim, and blends and polyester battings are synthetic throughout. Synthetics can melt, scorch or ignite in a microwave. Wrap-N-Zap is 100% cotton with no scrim, so it is the safe choice for bowl cozies, hot pads and potato bags.
What thread and fabric should I use with Wrap-N-Zap?
100% cotton thread and 100% cotton fabric. Polyester thread and poly-blend fabric can melt in the microwave, and metallic prints are not safe. Check that your fabric has no synthetic content before you sew.
Is one layer enough for a hot pad or bowl cozy?
One layer of Wrap-N-Zap is the usual choice for a bowl cozy. For hot pads and casserole warmers that will handle hot dishes, many makers use two layers for extra insulation. Never use Insul-Bright or any metallic thermal batting in the microwave.
Can I microwave a Wrap-N-Zap project empty?
No. Always have food in the bowl or bag. Microwaving an empty cotton project can scorch it. Follow your pattern's heating times and let the project cool before washing.
