Stable-Batt vs foam stabilizer: which for a bag?

Foam stabilizers such as Soft and Stable make a bag that stands up on its own. Stable-Batt is a cotton-rich batt with a scrim, so the bag has body and a quilted look but will slouch a little. Choose foam for structured bags and Stable-Batt for soft totes and pouches.

Can I use it in a bed quilt?

At 24" wide it is cut for small projects, not bed quilts. For a quilt, choose a full-width batting such as Hobbs Heirloom 80/20.

Is it microwave-safe?

No. It contains polyester and a scrim, so it should not go in the microwave. For bowl cozies use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap with cotton fabric and cotton thread.

5-yard or 10-yard roll?

Same product, different length. Five yards covers a few bags or a set of placemats; ten yards is the better value if you make projects in batches.

Stable-Batt from Bosal is stabilizer and batting in one product. It gives bags, placemats, table runners and other small quilted projects soft padding and enough body to hold their shape, without layering a separate stabilizer under a batting. This roll is 24" wide by 5 yards.

It is 62.3% cotton and 26.7% polyester, with a scrim making up the other 11% for stability and strength. The scrim keeps the batt from stretching as you cut and quilt narrow pieces. The 24" width cuts cleanly into bag panels, straps and runner strips. Five yards is enough for a few projects; for more, see the 10-yard roll.
