Description

Pre-cut Hobbs Heirloom Premium 80/20, packaged for one quilt. If you do not need a 30-yard roll, a package gives you the right amount for a single project, crib through king, with nothing left to store. Pick the size a few inches larger than your finished top on every side.

It is the same Heirloom 80/20 our longarm customers run by the roll: 80% natural cotton, 20% fine polyester, needle-punched and lightly resin-bonded. Close quilting gives a flat, low-loft antique look; wider spacing (up to 4") lets the loft rise a little. It is soft, breathable and strong, resists shifting under the needle, and is machine washable once in the quilt. Because the cotton is unbleached it pairs best with medium and dark fabrics; test under white.

Compare and choose

What size package do I need?
Choose a package a few inches larger than your finished top on all sides. Twin, Full, Queen and King are cut to standard bed dimensions; Crib (45" x 60") suits baby quilts and small throws. If your top is between sizes, go up.
How is a package different from the roll?
The batting is identical. Packages are pre-cut for one quilt, ship anywhere, and leave nothing to store. The 96" roll and 15-yard board cost less per yard and suit longarmers who quilt steadily; by the yard covers odd sizes. Hobbs 80/20 96" x 30-yard roll
Hobbs 80/20 vs Pellon 80/20 vs Quilters Dream 80/20?
All three are cotton/poly blends in standard package sizes. Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 has no scrim and a soft, traditional drape with 3-5% shrinkage. Pellon's 80/20 is needle-punched with a scrim, which makes it a bit firmer and more stable. Quilters Dream Natural 80/20 is their blend in the Dream line. If you are already happy with Hobbs on the longarm, the package is the same batting in a smaller cut. Pellon 80/20 queen package
Is it good for white quilts?
Test first. This is unbleached natural batting and can slightly shadow very light fabrics. For white or pastel quilts choose the bleached Heirloom 80/20 package instead. Hobbs Bleached 80/20 package
Do I need to pre-wash it?
No. Pre-washing is not recommended. Expect 3-5% shrinkage on the first wash, which gives the soft, crinkled antique finish.
Is Hobbs 80/20 right for a t-shirt quilt or a baby quilt?
Yes to both. The low loft keeps a t-shirt quilt from getting heavy and the needle-punched batting stays put under the knit panels. For a baby quilt, the Crib package is soft, breathable and machine washable. It is not microwave-safe, so do not use it for bowl cozies.
