Description

Quilters Dream Natural 80/20 is the all-purpose batting in the Dream line: 80% long-staple cotton and 20% fine-denier polyester at the Select mid loft, lightweight, stable and easy to quilt by hand or machine. It is the batting we point beginners to and the one experienced quilters keep on hand for bed quilts and wall hangings. The natural color warms the look of the quilt, and the fine blend gives a smooth drape and clear stitch definition. This package is pre-cut in eight sizes from Craft to King. It is a pre-order item.

Dream 80/20 pairs 80% long-staple USA cotton with 20% fine-denier polyester microfiber. The long cotton fibers reduce shrinkage and add stability so the batting can be quilted up to 8" apart; the poly microfibers add a touch of loft and resistance to creases and wrinkles. The blend is carded, crosslapped and needle-punched with no scrim, glue or binders, so it stays soft, drapes well and needles easily by hand or machine. No pre-washing; shrinkage is minimal. Machine wash and dry the finished quilt.

For white and pastel tops use the Select 80/20 White package. For basting-free projects, the Fusible 80/20 package is the same blend needled through a fusible web. Longarm studios can buy the natural 80/20 on 60", 93" and 120" rolls.

Quilters Dream 80/20 vs Hobbs Heirloom 80/20: which should I buy?
Both are 80% cotton, 20% polyester, low-to-mid loft and machine washable. Hobbs Heirloom is lightly resin-bonded, shrinks 3-5% for a crinkled antique look, and should be quilted within 4". Dream 80/20 has no resin or scrim, minimal shrinkage, and quilts up to 8" apart, with a slightly softer drape. Choose Hobbs for the traditional crinkle; choose Dream for a flatter finish and wider stitch spacing. Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 package
80/20 blend or 100% cotton: what is the difference?
The 20% polyester adds a little loft, strength and crease resistance and reduces shrinkage; 100% cotton is denser, breathes a touch better and gives the classic flat cotton quilt. In the Quilters Dream line, Select Natural Cotton is the pure-cotton counterpart at the same mid loft. Select Natural Cotton package
Natural or white 80/20: which do I need?
Natural (this package) under most fabrics. Under white, cream or pastel tops the natural batting can shadow through, so use the Select 80/20 White. Select 80/20 White package
Which package size fits my quilt top?
Pick a batt at least 4" larger than your top on each side. Craft is 46" x 36", Crib 60" x 46", Throw 60" x 60", Twin 93" x 72", Double 96" x 93", Queen 108" x 93", Super Queen 121" x 93" and King 120" x 122". If you quilt often, the rolls cost less per yard. Select Natural 80/20 93" roll
Do I need to pre-wash Dream 80/20?
No. Shrinkage is minimal, so you will get a smooth finish rather than a heavy crinkle. Machine wash and dry the finished quilt.
Can I use 80/20 batting for microwave bowl cozies?
No. The polyester content can melt or scorch in a microwave. Use 100% cotton batting with no scrim, such as Dream Cotton, or Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, with cotton fabric and cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
