Description

Quilters Dream Fusible 80/20 is the Dream 80/20 blend needled through a one-sided fusible web, so you can iron the batting to your fabric and skip pinning or spray basting. Unlike many fusibles it does not turn stiff or sticky: it stays soft, supple and drapeable, which is why our customers use it for bags, quilt-as-you-go blocks, machine embroidery, jackets and other wearables. This package comes in four smaller sizes, Craft, Crib, Throw and Twin, which suits the projects a fusible is usually bought for.

The batting is 80% cotton and 20% fine-denier polyester, needle-punched for softness and consistency. You can hand quilt it with ease or machine quilt at high speed; the fusible web will not slow the needle or gum up your machine. The fusible is on one side only, so you fuse the batting to either the top or the backing and layer the other side normally.

For larger quilts, or when you do not need the fusible, the Natural 80/20 package is the same blend in sizes up to King.

Compare and choose

Quilters Dream Fusible 80/20 vs Hobbs Heirloom Fusible 80/20: which should I buy?
Hobbs Heirloom Fusible is fusible on both sides, so you can fuse top and backing in one go; it is resin-bonded and shrinks 3-5%. Dream Fusible is fusible on one side, has no resin, and stays softer and more drapeable after fusing, with minimal shrinkage. Choose Hobbs to fuse the whole sandwich at once; Dream for bags, wearables and quilt-as-you-go where drape matters. Hobbs Heirloom Fusible 80/20 package
Which side is fusible, and how do I fuse it?
One side carries the fusible web. Lay the batting fusible side against the wrong side of your fabric and press with a dry iron on the fabric side, section by section, letting it cool before moving on. Test on a scrap first to find the heat and time that bond without flattening the batting.
Will it gum up my sewing machine or longarm?
No. The fusible web is needled into the batting rather than coated on, and Quilters Dream designed it so the web does not transfer to the needle even at high machine speeds.
Is this good for quilt-as-you-go and bags?
Yes. One-sided fusible keeps blocks and bag panels from shifting while you quilt them, and because the batting stays soft it does not add the board-like stiffness of a foam or fleece interfacing.
Why is this only available up to Twin?
Fusible batting is mostly used for smaller projects, and fusing a king-size sandwich on an ironing board is impractical. For bed quilts, use the regular Dream 80/20 package with pins or basting spray. Natural 80/20 package
Can I use 80/20 batting for microwave bowl cozies?
No. The polyester content can melt or scorch in a microwave. Use 100% cotton batting with no scrim, such as Dream Cotton, or Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, with cotton fabric and cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
