Description
Hobbs Tuscany Bleached Cotton is designed for white and light-colored quilts. It is 100% bleached, long-staple virgin cotton that carries the Cotton Incorporated Seal, with no scrim or binders, needle-punched so it resists bunching and shifting. It quilts easily by hand or machine and gives an even, soft hand.
This twin package measures 72" x 96", sized for twin bed quilts, with a little extra length over a standard 72" x 90" twin batt. The bright white fibers will not shadow through or dull a pale quilt top, which is the main reason to choose it over Tuscany Unbleached.
Do not pre-wash. Used straight from the package, it shrinks 3-5% after quilting and washing, which creates the antique puckered look, and it gets softer every time it is washed. Quilt no more than 4" apart, and make a test sample before a major project to see how it needles and launders.

Compare and choose
- Bleached or unbleached Tuscany: which should I buy?
- Choose bleached (this one) for white, cream and pastel tops; it gives a clean white layer that will not cause a shadow effect. Unbleached Tuscany is the same scrim-free cotton for medium and dark fabrics, where its natural color does not show. Tuscany Unbleached twin 72" x 96"
- Is this the same batting as your Hobbs Tuscany Bleached Cotton package?
- Yes, it is the same Hobbs Tuscany Bleached Cotton. This listing is the twin size; our Hobbs-listed package covers the throw size. Hobbs Tuscany Bleached package
- Tuscany Bleached vs Hobbs Heirloom Bleached 80/20: what is the difference?
- Tuscany Bleached is 100% cotton with no scrim and quilts within 4". Heirloom Bleached 80/20 adds 20% polyester for strength, resilience and resistance to bearding, with a little more loft. Pick Tuscany when a pattern calls for pure cotton or you want the softest drape; pick Heirloom 80/20 for a sturdier everyday bed quilt. Hobbs Heirloom Bleached 80/20 packages
- Is the twin 72" x 96" batt big enough for my quilt?
- Plan on batting at least 2" larger than your top on every side, and about 4" on every side if it is going on a longarm frame. This 72" x 96" batt covers finished tops up to about 68" x 92" for domestic quilting, or about 64" x 88" on a longarm. For a larger top, step up to the queen 96" x 108". queen 96" x 108"
- Should I pre-wash bleached cotton batting?
- No. Hobbs does not recommend pre-washing Tuscany. Quilt it straight from the package and expect 3-5% shrinkage in the first wash.
