Description
Hobbs Tuscany 100% Bleached Cotton in a 60" x 60" throw package. Tuscany is Hobbs' premium cotton line, and this bleached version is made for light-colored quilts: the white cotton gives an even, clean look under pale fabric with none of the shadowing that natural cotton can cause. The throw size suits lap quilts, baby quilts and wall hangings.
It is one of the softest cotton battings on the market, needle-punched for stability, and easy to quilt by machine; hand quilters should test a corner with their fabric. Quilt it up to 4" apart. Once inside a quilt it is machine washable and gets softer with every wash, with 3-5% shrinkage the first time for a gentle crinkle. Hobbs does not recommend pre-washing. For best results, always test with your fabric. Packages ship to every address, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Compare and choose
- Tuscany Bleached Cotton vs Heirloom Bleached 80/20: which do I want for a white quilt?
- Both are white and both are quilted within 4". Tuscany is 100% cotton: a denser, slightly heavier, very soft batting with a flat traditional finish and no synthetic fiber. Heirloom Bleached 80/20 adds polyester for a lighter weight and a bit more drape and resilience. If you want pure cotton, Tuscany; if you want the standard longarm blend in white, the 80/20 package. - Does it have a scrim?
- No. Tuscany Bleached Cotton is needle-punched without a scrim, which is what gives it its soft hand. The trade-off is the 4" maximum stitch spacing; a scrim cotton like Warm & White can be quilted up to 10" apart but feels firmer. Warm & White needled cotton package
- Is this the right batting for a baby quilt?
- Yes. It is soft, all-cotton, breathable and washes well, and the 60" x 60" throw package covers a baby or lap quilt with margin. It gets softer with each wash.
- Can I use it for microwave bowl cozies or hot pads?
- Yes, with cotton thread and cotton fabric. Tuscany Bleached Cotton is 100% cotton with no scrim and no polyester, so it is safe for microwave projects. Keep the whole piece cotton; polyester thread or fabric is not.
- Tuscany Bleached Cotton vs Quilters Dream Select White Cotton: what is the difference?
- Both are needle-punched white cottons without scrim, quilted within 4" with 3-5% shrinkage. Tuscany is Hobbs' premium cotton with a particularly soft hand; Dream Select is a mid loft from Quilters Dream with a similar feel and a wider range of package sizes. They are close enough that most quilters choose on availability and size. Quilters Dream Select White Cotton package
- Will the shrinkage distort my quilt?
- No, it gives the soft, crinkled, antique look that cotton batting is known for. Expect 3-5% on the first wash. Do not pre-wash the batting; quilt it dry and let the finished quilt shrink evenly.
