Description

Pellon white cotton batting with scrim in a 90" x 108" queen package is one piece for a white or light-colored queen bed quilt, covering tops up to about 86" x 104" with margin. For two or more queens, the 96" x 9 yd bolt is the better buy; for a king use the 120" x 120" king package.

Bleached cotton is the right choice under white and light tops, where the flecks in natural batting can shadow through. The batting is needle-punched onto a soft scrim that adds strength and stability without bunching or bearding, so you can quilt up to 10" apart. It is a low 1/16" loft that shrinks 3-5% in the first wash for a soft, lightly crinkled finish. Washable by hand or machine and dry cleanable.

Packages arrive folded and ship to you directly from Pellon; unfold and let the batting relax before layering.

Compare and choose

Will 90" x 108" cover a king?
No. King tops are 108" to 120" wide. Use the 120" x 120" king package, which is the same white cotton with scrim. Pellon White Cotton with Scrim king package
Queen package or 96" x 9 yd bolt?
The package is one queen. The bolt is 324" of 96"-wide batting, enough for three queens, and it costs less per quilt. If more than one light-colored quilt is coming, buy the bolt. Pellon White Cotton with Scrim 96" x 9 yd bolt
White or natural cotton with scrim: which do I need?
They are the same Pellon batting; the white version is bleached. Natural (unbleached) is fine under most fabrics, but under white, cream or pastel tops its tiny cotton flecks can shadow through. Choose white for light quilts and natural for everything else. Pellon Natural Cotton with Scrim queen package
Pellon white cotton vs Quilters Dream Select White Cotton?
Quilters Dream Select white cotton is a Linda's stocked, scrim-free cotton with a mid loft that quilts up to 8" apart and has a softer drape. Pellon white cotton with scrim is thinner, firmer and quilts up to 10" apart. Both are bleached for white quilts; Pellon is the budget choice, Quilters Dream the softer one. Quilters Dream Select White Cotton package
Pellon white cotton with scrim vs Hobbs Tuscany bleached cotton?
Hobbs Tuscany bleached cotton is a Linda's stocked, no-scrim 100% cotton with a loftier, softer hand and a 4" quilting distance. Pellon white cotton with scrim is thinner, firmer and quilts up to 10" apart. Choose Pellon for wide quilting and a flat finish; choose Tuscany for a softer, hand-quilting-friendly batting. Hobbs Tuscany 100% Bleached Cotton package
Do I need to pre-wash this batting?
No. Expect 3-5% shrinkage in the first wash of the finished quilt, which gives the soft, slightly crinkled look most quilters want from cotton. If you want a quilt that stays perfectly flat, pre-wash the batting gently by soaking, or choose a polyester batting with 0-3% shrinkage.
How far apart can I quilt it?
Up to 10" apart, because the scrim holds the cotton fibers in place. That is wide enough for simple edge-to-edge designs, big-stitch hand quilting and even tying, though closer quilting always gives a more durable quilt.
