How many quilts will a 90" x 30 yard roll make?

A queen uses about 108" of length, so one roll is about ten queens. Twins cut with the 72" side along the roll give fifteen; throws, eighteen.

90" or 96" roll: which width should I buy?

Both cover a queen. The 96" roll gives 3" more on each side, which longarmers like for clamps and for tops with wide borders. If your queens are 86" or narrower and you quilt on a domestic machine, 90" is enough.

Will 90" cover a king?

No. King tops are 108" to 120" wide. For kings use the 120" x 120" white king package, or a stocked Hobbs 108" bleached roll.

White or natural cotton with scrim: which do I need?

They are the same Pellon batting; the white version is bleached. Natural (unbleached) is fine under most fabrics, but under white, cream or pastel tops its tiny cotton flecks can shadow through. Choose white for light quilts and natural for everything else.

Pellon white cotton vs Warm & White: what is the difference?

Both are needle-punched bleached cotton battings with a polypropylene scrim, both quilt up to 10" apart, and both shrink around 3%. Warm & White has a firmer, denser hand; Pellon is thinner at 1/16" and usually costs less. Either works under a white quilt.

Do I need to pre-wash this batting?

No. Expect 3-5% shrinkage in the first wash of the finished quilt, which gives the soft, slightly crinkled look most quilters want from cotton. If you want a quilt that stays perfectly flat, pre-wash the batting gently by soaking, or choose a polyester batting with 0-3% shrinkage.

Can I use this cotton batting for microwave bowl cozies?

No. The 7% polypropylene scrim is a synthetic that can melt in the microwave. Use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, which is 100% natural cotton with no scrim, and sew it with cotton thread.

Pellon white cotton batting with scrim on a 90" x 30 yard roll is bleached cotton at production scale: about ten queen quilts, loaded straight onto a longarm frame. Ninety inches covers queen tops and smaller. If you want a little more clamping margin, the 96" x 30 yd roll is the same batting 6" wider; for even more length, the 90" x 40 yd roll.

Bleached cotton is the right choice under white and light tops, where the flecks in natural batting can shadow through. The batting is needle-punched onto a soft scrim that adds strength and stability without bunching or bearding, so you can quilt up to 10" apart.
