Description

Pellon white cotton batting with scrim on a 96" x 30 yard roll is the widest Pellon white cotton roll: about ten queen quilts of bleached cotton with 3" more margin per side than the 90" rolls, which longarmers appreciate for clamping. For kings you still need the 120" x 120" king package; for a smaller commitment, the 96" x 9 yd bolt.

Bleached cotton is the right choice under white and light tops, where the flecks in natural batting can shadow through. The batting is needle-punched onto a soft scrim that adds strength and stability without bunching or bearding, so you can quilt up to 10" apart. It is a low 1/16" loft that shrinks 3-5% in the first wash for a soft, lightly crinkled finish. Washable by hand or machine and dry cleanable.

This item ships to you directly from Pellon.

Compare and choose

How many quilts will a 96" x 30 yard roll make?
A queen uses about 108" of length, so one roll is about ten queens. Fulls cut with the 81" side along the roll give thirteen; twins fifteen; throws eighteen.
96" or 90" roll?
Both cover a queen. The 96" roll gives more clamping margin and handles queens with wide borders; the 90" rolls cost a little less and come in a 40-yard length. Neither covers a king. Pellon White Cotton with Scrim 90" x 30 yd roll
Pellon white cotton 96" roll vs Hobbs Bleached Heirloom cotton with scrim 96" roll?
Both are 96" bleached cotton rolls with a scrim. Hobbs Heirloom is a Linda's stocked roll with a softer hand and a 4" quilting distance; Pellon is thinner at 1/16", firmer, and quilts up to 10" apart. Choose Hobbs for softness; choose Pellon for wide stitch spacing and price. Hobbs Bleached Heirloom Cotton with Scrim 96" roll
White or natural cotton with scrim: which do I need?
They are the same Pellon batting; the white version is bleached. Natural (unbleached) is fine under most fabrics, but under white, cream or pastel tops its tiny cotton flecks can shadow through. Choose white for light quilts and natural for everything else. Pellon Natural Cotton with Scrim queen package
Do I need to pre-wash this batting?
No. Expect 3-5% shrinkage in the first wash of the finished quilt, which gives the soft, slightly crinkled look most quilters want from cotton. If you want a quilt that stays perfectly flat, pre-wash the batting gently by soaking, or choose a polyester batting with 0-3% shrinkage.
Can I use this cotton batting for microwave bowl cozies?
No. The 7% polypropylene scrim is a synthetic that can melt in the microwave. Use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, which is 100% natural cotton with no scrim, and sew it with cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 45" x 1 yd package
Do you ship batting rolls to Alaska or Hawaii?
No. Rolls and boards ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations. Shop packaged batting
