Description

Pellon white cotton batting with scrim on a 96" x 9 yard bolt is three queen quilts of bleached cotton in a bolt that fits on a shelf. It is the step between a single package and a production roll, and the 96" width gives longarmers a few inches of margin for clamping. For volume, the 96" x 30 yd roll costs less per yard.

Bleached cotton is the right choice under white and light tops, where the flecks in natural batting can shadow through. The batting is needle-punched onto a soft scrim that adds strength and stability without bunching or bearding, so you can quilt up to 10" apart. It is a low 1/16" loft that shrinks 3-5% in the first wash for a soft, lightly crinkled finish. Washable by hand or machine and dry cleanable.

Compare and choose

How many quilts does a 96" x 9 yard bolt make?
Nine yards is 324" of length. That is three queens (108" each), four fulls cut with the 81" side along the bolt, four twins or five throws.
Bolt or 30-yard roll?
The bolt is the smaller commitment and stores easily. The 96" x 30 yd roll is the same batting at the lowest cost per yard for longarmers and frequent quilters. Pellon White Cotton with Scrim 96" x 30 yd roll
Will 96" cover a king?
No. King tops are 108" to 120" wide. Use the 120" x 120" white king package. Pellon White Cotton with Scrim king package
White or natural cotton with scrim: which do I need?
They are the same Pellon batting; the white version is bleached. Natural (unbleached) is fine under most fabrics, but under white, cream or pastel tops its tiny cotton flecks can shadow through. Choose white for light quilts and natural for everything else. Pellon Natural Cotton with Scrim queen package
Do I need to pre-wash this batting?
No. Expect 3-5% shrinkage in the first wash of the finished quilt, which gives the soft, slightly crinkled look most quilters want from cotton. If you want a quilt that stays perfectly flat, pre-wash the batting gently by soaking, or choose a polyester batting with 0-3% shrinkage.
How far apart can I quilt it?
Up to 10" apart, because the scrim holds the cotton fibers in place. That is wide enough for simple edge-to-edge designs, big-stitch hand quilting and even tying, though closer quilting always gives a more durable quilt.
Can I use this cotton batting for microwave bowl cozies?
No. The 7% polypropylene scrim is a synthetic that can melt in the microwave. Use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, which is 100% natural cotton with no scrim, and sew it with cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 45" x 1 yd package
Do you ship batting rolls to Alaska or Hawaii?
No. Rolls and boards ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations. Shop packaged batting
