Description
Pellon white cotton batting with scrim in a 45" x 60" crib package is one piece for a white or pastel baby quilt, toddler quilt or small lap quilt. Cotton breathes, washes well and softens with every wash. For a larger throw, use the 72" x 90" twin package and trim.
Bleached cotton is the right choice under white and light tops, where the flecks in natural batting can shadow through. The batting is needle-punched onto a soft scrim that adds strength and stability without bunching or bearding, so you can quilt up to 10" apart. It is a low 1/16" loft that shrinks 3-5% in the first wash for a soft, lightly crinkled finish. Washable by hand or machine and dry cleanable.
Packages arrive folded and ship to you directly from Pellon; unfold and let the batting relax before layering.

- Why white batting for a baby quilt?
- Baby quilts are usually pale, and the small dark flecks in natural cotton batting can shadow through white or pastel fabric. Bleached cotton stays invisible under light tops. If your baby quilt is mostly saturated color, natural works just as well. Pellon Natural Cotton with Scrim crib package
- Cotton or polyester for a baby quilt?
- Cotton with scrim breathes, is a natural fiber against skin, and gets softer with washing; it shrinks 3-5% for a crinkled look. Polyester is lighter, dries faster and does not shrink. Both are machine washable; many of our customers prefer cotton for babies. Pellon Polyester crib package
- Do I need to pre-wash this batting?
- No. Expect 3-5% shrinkage in the first wash of the finished quilt, which gives the soft, slightly crinkled look most quilters want from cotton. If you want a quilt that stays perfectly flat, pre-wash the batting gently by soaking, or choose a polyester batting with 0-3% shrinkage.
- How far apart can I quilt it?
- Up to 10" apart, because the scrim holds the cotton fibers in place. That is wide enough for simple edge-to-edge designs, big-stitch hand quilting and even tying, though closer quilting always gives a more durable quilt.
- Can I use this cotton batting for microwave bowl cozies?
- No. The 7% polypropylene scrim is a synthetic that can melt in the microwave. Use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, which is 100% natural cotton with no scrim, and sew it with cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 45" x 1 yd package
