Description
Pellon 100% polyester batting in a 45" x 60" crib package is the one-piece batting for baby quilts, toddler quilts and small lap quilts. Polyester is light, dries fast and shrugs off frequent washing, which is what a baby quilt sees. For a larger throw use the 60" x 60" throw package.
The batting adds loft, body, softness and definition without weight: 1/8" loft, 0-3% shrinkage, and quilting lines up to 4" apart while keeping strength and flexibility. It gives crisp stitch definition, keeps the quilt light and easy to wash, and does not need pre-washing. Washable by hand or machine and dry cleanable.
Packages arrive folded and ship to you directly from Pellon; unfold and let the batting relax before layering.

Compare and choose
- Is polyester a good choice for a baby quilt?
- Yes. It is lightweight, machine washable, dries quickly and does not shrink, so the quilt stays the size you made it. If you prefer a natural fiber under baby, the Pellon natural cotton crib package is the same size in cotton with scrim. Pellon Natural Cotton with Scrim crib package
- Crib package or 60" x 60" throw?
- A 45" x 60" piece covers crib quilts up to about 41" x 56" with margin. If your baby quilt is wider than 41", or you want a square lap quilt, buy the 60" x 60" throw and trim. Pellon Polyester 60" x 60" throw package
- Does Pellon polyester batting need to be pre-washed?
- No. Pellon rates it at 0-3% shrinkage, so it goes straight from the package to the quilt and the finished quilt keeps its dimensions with very little crinkle. Polyester also dries quickly and resists mildew, which makes it a practical choice for quilts that get washed often.
- Can I use polyester batting for bowl cozies or hot pads?
- No. Polyester can melt or scorch in the microwave. For microwave projects use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, which is 100% natural cotton with no scrim and no synthetic fiber, and sew it with cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 45" x 1 yd package
- How far apart can I quilt or tie it?
- Up to 4" apart. A baby quilt that will be washed weekly benefits from closer quilting, around 2" to 3", so the layers stay smooth.
