Description

Quilters Dream Request Poly is the thinnest loft in the Dream Poly line: a lightweight, consistent microfiber polyester developed for hand quilters and fine micro-stitching, with an exceptional drape for a synthetic. It is the batting to choose for a summer-weight quilt, a wearable, or any project that needs to be light and washable without shrinking. Handle it gently on a domestic machine; on a longarm, float the top. This package is pre-cut in eight sizes from Craft to King.

Dream Poly is not an ordinary polyester. It is made from very fine denier microfibers, over 60 million fibers per pound against about 5 million in a typical poly batt, which is what gives it a soft hand, real drape and breathability. The fibers are blended, carded, crosslapped and needle-punched with no scrim, resin or glue, so needles glide through it. It resists bunching and shifting, can be quilted up to 12" apart, does not shrink, and resists holding a crease, which makes it a good choice for quilts that get folded, packed and shipped. Machine wash and dry the finished quilt, or dry clean.

Request Poly comes in white. For a mid-weight everyday quilt use Select Poly; for warmth and stitch definition use Deluxe Poly. For a dark quilt, the Select Black Poly stops white fibers showing through.

Compare and choose

Request, Select or Deluxe: which Dream Poly loft?
Same microfiber polyester, three thicknesses. Request is the thinnest, made for hand quilters and lightweight summer quilts. Select is the mid loft and the most popular: the all-purpose choice for bed quilts, modern quilts and wearables. Deluxe is the heaviest, adding warmth, weight and stitch definition for machine-quilted projects. All three quilt up to 12" apart and have no scrim.
Quilters Dream Request Poly vs Hobbs Thermore: which thin polyester?
Both are very thin polyester battings for garments, wearables and lightweight quilts. Thermore is a bonded poly designed to stay stable in clothing; Request Poly is needle-punched microfiber with a softer drape and a 12" quilting distance. Choose Thermore for jackets and vests that need body; choose Request Poly for a light, drapey quilt or hand quilting. Hobbs Thermore package
Is Request Poly good for hand quilting?
Yes. It is the loft Quilters Dream developed for hand quilters: thin, consistent and free of scrim and resin, so fine stitches go through easily. On a domestic machine handle it gently, and on a longarm float the top instead of pinning the batting to the leaders.
Polyester or cotton for a baby quilt?
Either works. Request Poly is lighter, dries faster and will not shrink, so the quilt stays flat after many washes. Dream Cotton Request breathes a little better and gives the traditional cotton feel. If the quilt will be washed constantly, many customers prefer the poly. Request Natural Cotton package
Will Dream Poly shrink or crinkle when washed?
No. Dream Poly has zero shrinkage, so the quilt keeps the flat, smooth look it had on the frame. If you want the antique crinkle, pair it with unwashed cotton fabric so the fabric shrinks instead, or choose a cotton batting. Do not pre-wash the batting.
Can I use polyester batting for microwave bowl cozies or hot pads?
No. Polyester melts and can scorch in a microwave. Use 100% cotton batting with no scrim, such as Quilters Dream Cotton, or Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, with cotton fabric and cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
