Description

Hobbs Thermore in two pre-cut packages: 54" x 45" for garments, table runners, placemats and small projects, and 90" x 108" queen for a flat, lightweight bed quilt. At about 1/16" loft it is the thinnest batting we sell. It was designed for clothing and miniatures, and it is the batting to reach for whenever you want the quilt to lie flat and drape like fabric rather than add bulk.

Thermore is 100% polyester treated with Hobbs' own surface process and is guaranteed not to beard or migrate. It does not shrink, can be quilted up to 9" apart, and works equally well by hand or machine under light or dark fabrics. The finished piece can be machine washed, hand washed or dry cleaned, which is why garment makers like it. Hobbs does not recommend pre-washing. Packages ship to every address, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Compare and choose

Thermore vs Polydown: which should I buy?
Thermore is about 1/16" thick and lies flat; Poly-Down is about 1/4" and shows quilting in relief. Choose Thermore for garments, table runners, placemats, wall hangings and any quilt you want thin and drapey. Choose Poly-Down for a bed or baby quilt where you want some loft and a softer, puffier feel. Hobbs Polydown package
Is Thermore the right batting for a quilted jacket?
Yes, it is the one Hobbs designed for clothing. It adds almost no bulk, drapes with the fabric, does not beard through the shell, and the finished garment can be machine washed, hand washed or dry cleaned. The 54" x 45" package covers most jacket and vest patterns.
Can I quilt it far apart?
Up to 9" apart, which is wider than any other Hobbs batting. That makes Thermore a good choice for lightly quilted wall hangings and for pieces where you want minimal stitching to show.
Thermore vs Quilters Dream Request Poly: what is the difference?
Both are thin polyester battings with no shrinkage. Dream Request is Quilters Dream's lightest loft and is needle-punched; Thermore is thinner still and is surface-treated to be guaranteed not to beard, with a wider 9" stitch spacing. For garments and the flattest possible finish, Thermore; for a light but slightly fuller quilt batting, Dream Request. Quilters Dream Request Poly package
Will it shadow through light fabric?
No. Thermore is cream colored and very thin, and Hobbs rates it excellent under both light and dark fabrics. It is one of the few battings we sell without a light-fabric caution.
Can I use Thermore for hot pads or bowl cozies?
No. It is polyester and is not microwave safe. Use 100% cotton batting with no scrim, or Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, for anything that will be heated. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 45" x 1-yard package
Do I need to pre-wash it?
No. Thermore does not shrink, so there is nothing to pre-shrink, and Hobbs does not recommend pre-washing any of its battings.
