Description
Thirteen 14" x 14" squares, one of each of Hobbs' most popular battings, so you can handle, needle, quilt and wash them before you buy a package or a roll. Longarmers keep this pack on the counter to show clients what the batting choices feel like; home quilters use it to settle the cotton-versus-wool-versus-poly question with their own hands.
The pack covers the whole Hobbs range we stock: the Heirloom 80/20 family in natural, black, bleached and fusible; Heirloom 100% cotton with scrim; Heirloom and Tuscany cotton in bleached and unbleached; Heirloom and Tuscany wool; Tuscany cotton/wool blend; Tuscany Supreme cotton; Thermore; Poly-Down; and Linda's Deluxe cotton/poly, which Hobbs makes for us. A 14" square is big enough to make a real test sandwich, quilt it with your thread and tension, and run it through the wash.

- What is the best way to use the sample squares?
- Make a small quilt sandwich from each with scraps of the fabric you actually use, quilt it with your usual thread and spacing, label it, then wash and dry it. Compare the squares after washing; that is when loft, crinkle and drape differences really show.
- Does the pack include black and fusible batting?
- Yes. Both Heirloom 80/20 Black and Heirloom 80/20 Fusible are in the pack, along with the natural and bleached 80/20, so you can see the whole Heirloom 80/20 family side by side. Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 packages
- Is this the same as the Hobbs BY Polyester Sample Pack?
- No. This pack covers Hobbs' cotton, blend, wool and premium polyester battings. The BY pack is only the heavy bonded polyester weights (6 oz through 16 oz) used for tied quilts and comforters. Buy the BY pack if high-loft polyester is what you are comparing. Hobbs BY Polyester Sample Pack
- Which squares are microwave-safe for bowl cozies?
- None of them, strictly speaking. The Hobbs 100% cotton battings in this pack carry a thin polyester scrim, and the blends, wool and polyester squares all contain non-cotton fiber. For microwave projects use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
- Can I get sample squares of Quilters Dream batting too?
