Description

Quilters Dream Deluxe Poly is the heaviest loft in the Dream Poly line: a weighty microfiber polyester that adds warmth, weight and emphasis to quilting designs without the shrinkage of cotton. It is built for machine quilting and is the loft to pick for a substantial bed quilt, a wall hanging that needs body, quilted bags and craft projects. This package is pre-cut in eight sizes from Craft to King, so you buy one batt sized for one project.

Dream Poly is not an ordinary polyester. It is made from very fine denier microfibers, over 60 million fibers per pound against about 5 million in a typical poly batt, which is what gives it a soft hand, real drape and breathability. The fibers are blended, carded, crosslapped and needle-punched with no scrim, resin or glue, so needles glide through it. It resists bunching and shifting, can be quilted up to 12" apart, does not shrink, and resists holding a crease, which makes it a good choice for quilts that get folded, packed and shipped. Machine wash and dry the finished quilt, or dry clean.

Because it does not shrink, Deluxe Poly gives a flat, modern finish when used with pre-washed fabric. For a lighter everyday quilt use Select Poly; for hand quilting and summer quilts use Request Poly. The Deluxe loft is also on 60", 93" and 120" rolls.

Compare and choose

Request, Select or Deluxe: which Dream Poly loft?
Same microfiber polyester, three thicknesses. Request is the thinnest, made for hand quilters and lightweight summer quilts. Select is the mid loft and the most popular: the all-purpose choice for bed quilts, modern quilts and wearables. Deluxe is the heaviest, adding warmth, weight and stitch definition for machine-quilted projects. All three quilt up to 12" apart and have no scrim.
Deluxe Poly vs Dream Puff: which is loftier?
Dream Puff. Puff is a thermally bonded polyester with a 1/3" to 1/2" loft that is very light for its warmth, meant for comforters, tied quilts and trapunto. Deluxe Poly is needle-punched and denser: heavier in the hand, flatter, and better for quilting designs that need definition without a puffy look. Puff quilts up to 10" apart, Deluxe Poly up to 12". Dream Puff package
Quilters Dream Poly vs Hobbs Poly-Down: what is the difference?
Both are soft polyester battings that do not shrink. Poly-Down is a bonded polyester with a springy, down-like loft and a 4" quilting distance. Dream Poly is needle-punched microfiber with no resin, a denser and more drapey hand, and a 12" quilting distance. Choose Dream Poly for drape and wide stitch spacing; choose Poly-Down for a puffier, cloud-like look. Hobbs Poly-Down package
Is Deluxe Poly good for hand quilting?
It can be hand quilted, since there is no scrim or resin, but it is thick enough that most hand quilters prefer Request or Select Poly. Quilters Dream designed Deluxe with machine quilting in mind. Request Poly package
Will Dream Poly shrink or crinkle when washed?
No. Dream Poly has zero shrinkage, so the quilt keeps the flat, smooth look it had on the frame. If you want the antique crinkle, pair it with unwashed cotton fabric so the fabric shrinks instead, or choose a cotton batting. Do not pre-wash the batting.
Can I use polyester batting for microwave bowl cozies or hot pads?
No. Polyester melts and can scorch in a microwave. Use 100% cotton batting with no scrim, such as Quilters Dream Cotton, or Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, with cotton fabric and cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
