Description

Quilters Dream Puff is the high-loft batting in the Dream line: lighter than a feather and warmer than down, as Quilters Dream puts it, with a soft, resilient 1/3" to 1/2" loft that adds volume and definition to quilting without adding weight. It is the batting for comforters, tied quilts, trapunto, puffy baby quilts, wearables and sleeping bags. This package is pre-cut in eight sizes from Craft to King; the same batting is on 93" and 120" rolls.

Dream Puff is 100% fine-denier polyester microfiber that is thermally bonded and sealed rather than needle-punched: heat fuses the fibers where they touch, with no chemical resin binders, which gives a light, airy batting that springs back. The loft is 1/3" to 1/2" and the warmth is remarkable for the weight: Quilters Dream rates it 1.5 times warmer than down and nearly twice as warm as high-loft polyester. Quilt up to 10" apart; needles glide through the silky fibers, and it is good for hand and machine quilting. It will not shrink and resists creases and fold lines. Machine wash and dry the finished quilt on cool settings. Do not iron, dry clean or compress it with heat, which would flatten the loft.

For even more height, double-layer Puff or layer it over Dream Poly or any Dream needle-punched batting. For a flatter polyester quilt with the same easy care, see the Deluxe Poly package.

Compare and choose

Dream Puff vs Hobbs Poly-Down: which high-loft polyester?
Both are lofty, no-shrink polyester battings. Dream Puff is thermally bonded, about 1/3" to 1/2" thick, very light for its warmth, and quilts up to 10" apart. Poly-Down is a bonded polyester with a slightly lower, down-like loft and a 4" quilting distance. Choose Puff for comforters, tied quilts and trapunto; Poly-Down for a softer everyday quilt that is still puffy. Hobbs Poly-Down package
Dream Puff vs Dream Deluxe Poly: which should I buy?
Puff is loftier and lighter: 1/3" to 1/2" thick, thermally bonded, meant for comforters, tied quilts and trapunto. Deluxe Poly is a needle-punched microfiber: denser, flatter and heavier in the hand, better for quilting designs that need definition without a puffy look. Both are no-shrink and machine washable. Deluxe Poly package
Can I use Dream Puff for trapunto?
Yes, it is one of the best battings for it. Layer Puff behind the motif you want raised, or double it for more height, then quilt with a flatter batting such as Dream Poly or Dream Cotton for the rest of the quilt. Quilters Dream also suggests layering Puff with any of its needle-punched battings for extra loft. Request Poly package (a flat partner)
Can I quilt Dream Puff on a longarm or does it have to be tied?
Both work. Puff quilts beautifully on a longarm or domestic machine and the loft makes the quilting lines stand out; keep stitching within 10". Tied comforters are the classic use because the loft shows most when the quilt is not stitched densely.
How do I wash a quilt made with Dream Puff?
Machine wash and dry on cool settings. Heat is the enemy of the loft: do not iron, dry clean or press it, and do not store it compressed under heavy items. Puff does not shrink, so do not pre-wash.
Can I use Dream Puff for microwave bowl cozies or hot pads?
No. It is polyester and will melt or scorch in a microwave. Use 100% cotton batting with no scrim, or Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, with cotton fabric and cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
