Description

Pellon 100% polyester batting on a 96" x 30 yard roll is the queen-width workhorse for longarm quilters. One roll covers roughly ten queen quilts loaded straight from the roll onto the frame, with no piecing and no per-quilt packaging. For king tops, use the 120" x 30 yd roll.

The batting is thin and even: 1/8" loft, 0-3% shrinkage, and quilting lines up to 4" apart while keeping strength and flexibility. It gives crisp stitch definition, keeps quilts light, and does not need pre-washing. Washable by hand or machine and dry cleanable.

This roll ships to you directly from Pellon.

Compare and choose

Is 96" wide enough for a king quilt?
Usually not without piecing. Most king tops run 108" to 120" wide, so they need a 120" roll. A 96" roll handles queen (about 90" x 108") and everything smaller with a few inches of margin on each side. Pellon Polyester 120" x 30 yd roll
How many quilts will a 96" x 30 yard roll make?
A queen quilt uses about 108" of length, so one roll yields about ten queens. Cut full-size pieces with the 81" side along the roll and you get about thirteen; mix in throws and baby quilts and the roll goes much further.
96" x 30 yd roll or 90" x 9 yd roll: which should I buy?
The 30-yard roll is the lowest cost per yard and suits longarmers and anyone quilting several quilts a year. The 9-yard roll is the same batting at a smaller commitment, about three queens, and it is easier to store. Both load on a standard frame. Pellon Polyester 90" x 9 yd roll
Pellon polyester vs Hobbs Polydown: what is the difference?
Both are low-loft polyester battings that resist bearding and shrink very little. Hobbs Polydown is a little loftier and softer with more drape, and it is a Linda's stocked item; Pellon polyester is a thin 1/8" batting that stays flat and is one of the most economical choices we carry. If you want the lightest, flattest poly, Pellon; if you want a bit more puff and a softer hand, Polydown. Hobbs Polydown batting package
Does Pellon polyester batting need to be pre-washed?
No. Pellon rates it at 0-3% shrinkage, so it goes straight from the package to the quilt and the finished quilt keeps its dimensions with very little crinkle. Polyester also dries quickly and resists mildew, which makes it a practical choice for quilts that get washed often.
Polyester vs 100% cotton batting: which should I pick?
Pellon polyester is lighter, warmer for its weight, does not shrink in any meaningful way, and gives crisp stitch definition. Cotton with scrim is flatter, breathes better, shrinks 3-5% for a crinkled antique look, and can be quilted up to 10" apart instead of 4". Pick polyester for easy-care quilts, kids' quilts and tied comforters; pick cotton for traditional bed quilts and anything you want to feel like fabric. Pellon Natural Cotton with Scrim queen package
Can I use polyester batting for bowl cozies or hot pads?
No. Polyester can melt or scorch in the microwave. For microwave projects use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, which is 100% natural cotton with no scrim and no synthetic fiber, and sew it with cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 45" x 1 yd package
