Description

Pellon 100% polyester batting on a 120" x 30 yard roll is the king-width format for longarm quilters who load batting straight onto the frame. At 30 yards, one roll handles roughly nine king quilts back to back with no per-quilt packaging and no piecing narrower batting up to width. If you mostly quilt queens and smaller, the 96" x 30 yd roll is the better buy.

The batting itself is thin and even: 1/8" loft, 0-3% shrinkage, and quilting lines up to 4" apart while keeping strength and flexibility. It gives crisp stitch definition, stays light on the bed, and does not need pre-washing. Washable by hand or machine and dry cleanable.

This roll ships to you directly from Pellon.

Compare and choose

Do I need the 120" roll, or is 96" enough?
A king top is usually 108" to 120" wide, which does not fit a 96" roll in one piece. The 120" roll covers a king with margin to spare and still cuts queens, twins and throws from the width. If you rarely quilt kings, the 96" x 30 yd roll is the same batting in a more economical width. Pellon Polyester 96" x 30 yd roll
How many quilts will a 120" x 30 yard roll make?
A king quilt takes about 120" of length, so one roll yields about nine king quilts. Cut queens across the width instead (90" of length per queen) and you get around twelve; throws and baby quilts stretch it much further.
Is roll batting better for longarm quilting than packages?
For frame quilting, yes. A 120" roll loads directly on the machine, feeds continuously, and eliminates seaming packaged batting up to king width. If you quilt one king a year, the pre-cut king package is the simpler purchase. Pellon Polyester 120" x 120" king package
Pellon polyester vs Hobbs Polydown: what is the difference?
Both are low-loft polyester battings that resist bearding and shrink very little. Hobbs Polydown is a little loftier and softer with more drape, and it is a Linda's stocked item; Pellon polyester is a thin 1/8" batting that stays flat and is one of the most economical choices we carry. If you want the lightest, flattest poly, Pellon; if you want a bit more puff and a softer hand, Polydown. Hobbs Polydown batting package
Does Pellon polyester batting need to be pre-washed?
No. Pellon rates it at 0-3% shrinkage, so it goes straight from the package to the quilt and the finished quilt keeps its dimensions with very little crinkle. Polyester also dries quickly and resists mildew, which makes it a practical choice for quilts that get washed often.
Polyester vs 100% cotton batting: which should I pick?
Pellon polyester is lighter, warmer for its weight, does not shrink in any meaningful way, and gives crisp stitch definition. Cotton with scrim is flatter, breathes better, shrinks 3-5% for a crinkled antique look, and can be quilted up to 10" apart instead of 4". Pick polyester for easy-care quilts, kids' quilts and tied comforters; pick cotton for traditional bed quilts and anything you want to feel like fabric. Pellon Natural Cotton with Scrim queen package
Can I use polyester batting for bowl cozies or hot pads?
No. Polyester can melt or scorch in the microwave. For microwave projects use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, which is 100% natural cotton with no scrim and no synthetic fiber, and sew it with cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 45" x 1 yd package
