Description
Pellon Polyester Batting is a light, resilient 100% polyester batt that adds a little more loft and softness than the Pellon cotton battings and does not shrink or crinkle in the wash. The 120" x 120" king package covers a king bed top in one piece, the main reason to buy this size: a 96" roll would need a seam. It is the size for king quilts, for queens with a deep drop, and for comforter-style quilts that will be washed often.
Loft is 1/8", twice that of Pellon cotton with scrim, so quilting shows a bit more definition and the quilt has more body without extra weight. Shrinkage is 0-3%, so the finished quilt stays close to the size you made it, and polyester does not hold moisture or attract moths. There is no scrim, and Pellon recommends quilting no more than 4" apart to keep the batt from shifting. Hand or machine wash, or dry clean.

Compare and choose
- Pellon Polyester vs Pellon 80/20 or cotton with scrim for a king quilt?
- Polyester is lighter, a touch loftier at 1/8", and shrinks 0-3% instead of 3-5%, so the quilt stays flat and square. The cotton and 80/20 battings have a scrim and can be quilted 10" apart, where polyester needs lines within 4". Pick polyester for a wash-and-go quilt with soft loft; pick cotton or 80/20 for a traditional crinkled finish and wider quilting. Pellon 80/20 with Scrim king package
- Pellon Polyester vs Hobbs Polydown or Cloudloft?
- All are 100% polyester. Pellon is the thinnest at 1/8" loft, Hobbs Polydown is a higher, down-like loft with more drape, and Cloudloft is Hobbs' puffiest bonded poly for comforter-style quilts. For a flat-ish king that quilts easily on a longarm, Pellon or Polydown; for maximum puff, Cloudloft. Hobbs Polydown package
- Does polyester batting shrink?
- Very little: Pellon rates it at 0-3%. There is no need to pre-wash, and the quilt will keep its size and flat look after laundering rather than crinkling the way cotton does.
- Why only 4" between quilting lines?
- This batt has no scrim, so the fibers rely on the quilting to stay put. Keep lines within 4" and it will not shift or bunch in the wash. If you want an open pantograph on a king, use Pellon 80/20 or cotton with scrim, which allow 10". Pellon Natural Cotton with Scrim king package
- Will the king package fit a California king?
- Yes. A California king top runs about 104" x 114" and the 120" x 120" batt covers it with margin on all sides.
- Can I use polyester batting in a microwave bowl cozy or hot pad?
- No. Polyester melts and can scorch in a microwave. Use Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, which is 100% cotton and made for microwave projects. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap
