Why choose bleached batting over natural?

Unbleached cotton has small tan flecks that can show through white and pale fabrics as shadows. Bleached batting is uniformly white, so light quilts stay crisp. Under medium and dark fabrics the difference is invisible, and natural is cheaper.

Bleached 80/20 vs bleached 100% cotton with scrim?

Both are bright white. The 80/20 blend is softer with a little more loft and drape; the 100% cotton with scrim is flatter and firmer, which some show quilters prefer for wall hangings. Both shrink 3-5% and quilt up to 4" apart.

96" vs 108" vs 120": which width for my quilt?

Pick a batting at least 4" wider than the shorter side of your quilt top. A 108" roll covers queen tops (about 90" x 108") with room to spare and oversized queens, but a true king (108" to 120" wide) does not fit in one piece; for king, use a 120" roll.

Do you ship batting rolls to Alaska or Hawaii?

No. Rolls and boards ship only to the 48 contiguous states; orders from Alaska, Hawaii or outside the US are cancelled and refunded. Pre-cut packages ship to all locations.

Do I need to pre-wash this batting?

No. Pre-washing is not recommended. Expect 3-5% shrinkage in the first wash, which gives the soft, crinkled finish most quilters want.

Hobbs Heirloom Bleached 80/20 is the batting to reach for when you are quilting white, pastel, or very light tops. The cotton is bleached to a bright white, so it will not shadow or dull light fabrics the way unbleached batting can. At 108" wide by 30 yards it covers queen and oversized-queen tops in one piece; for a true king use the 120" natural roll.

It carries the same Heirloom Premium construction as the natural roll: 80% cotton blended with 20% fine polyester, bonded and needle-punched for strength, durability and even loft, with the soft drape and 3-5% first-wash crinkle quilters expect from 80/20.
