Hobbs Bleached 80/20 vs Warm & White: what is the difference?

Warm & White is 100% bleached cotton with a scrim: flatter, firmer, and it can be quilted up to 10" apart. Hobbs Bleached 80/20 adds 20% polyester for a softer hand, a little more loft and better drape, and should be quilted within 4". Choose Hobbs for a soft bed quilt with a traditional crinkle; choose Warm & White for maximum flatness or wide stitch spacing.

Will the 108" width cover a king quilt?

Not in one piece. A king top is 108" to 120" wide, so the 108" width leaves no margin. For a king, order the natural Heirloom 80/20 cut by the yard at 120", or join two pieces of bleached batting with batting seam tape.

Do I need to pre-wash it?

No. Hobbs does not recommend pre-washing any of its battings. Expect 3-5% shrinkage on the first wash of the finished quilt, which gives the soft crinkle most quilters want.

Can I use it under dark fabric?

Hobbs rates it not recommended for dark fabrics. The white fibers can show at the needle holes and shed light lint onto a black top. Use the natural 80/20 under medium fabrics and the black 80/20 under black and very dark tops.

Hobbs Heirloom Bleached 80/20 cut from the 108" roll in whole yards. Order one unit for each yard you need: add 4 to your cart and you get 4 yards of 108" wide batting. This is the format for a white or pastel quilt when you do not want to store a 30-yard roll, and for sizes a pre-cut package does not cover. The 108" width takes a queen top with room to spare.

The batting is the same Heirloom 80/20 our longarm customers use every day, made with bleached cotton and fine white polyester so it reads clean under white and very light fabrics where unbleached batting can shadow through. It is bonded and needle-punched, so it holds together under the needle, quilts well by machine and longarm, and gives crisp stitch definition. Hand quilters like how it needles; test a corner with your fabric first. It is not recommended under dark fabrics, where the natural or black Heirloom is the better choice.
