Description
Insul-Fleece is an insulated interfacing: a layer of metalized Mylar sandwiched between polyester fleece, which creates a barrier that reflects heat or cold. This craft pack is one 27" x 45" sheet, a handy 3/4-yard cut that is enough for a large lunch bag or several potholders.
It is flexible and easy to sew through. Once it is sewn into your project you can machine wash, tumble dry and iron it with no bunching, using low to medium heat. Use it in lunch bags, casserole and teapot covers, ironing board covers, oven mitts and potholders, bottle and cup sleeves, and shopping bags that keep groceries cold on the way home.
Insul-Fleece is heat-resistant only, not heat-proof or fire-resistant. Because it contains a metallic layer and polyester, it must never go in a microwave, so it is not for microwave bowl cozies.

Compare and choose
- Insul-Fleece vs Insul-Bright: what is the difference?
- Both put a reflective layer inside a soft fiber layer to insulate against heat and cold. Insul-Fleece is metalized Mylar between polyester fleece in a 27" x 45" craft sheet. Insul-Bright from Warm Company is a needle-punched polyester batting with a metalized film, sold by the yard and on bolts. For a single lunch bag either works; for frequent potholder making, Insul-Bright on a bolt is easier to keep on hand. Insul-Bright 45" x 1 yard
- Can I use Insul-Fleece in a microwave bowl cozy?
- No. It contains a metallic Mylar layer and polyester, and neither belongs in a microwave. For microwave bowl cozies use 100% cotton batting with no scrim and sew with cotton thread.
- Is Insul-Fleece enough on its own for a potholder?
- It is heat-resistant, not heat-proof. For potholders and oven mitts, layer it with at least one layer of cotton batting so the hand side is protected, and test the finished piece before relying on it with very hot pans.
- Which side faces the heat?
- The reflective layer is inside the fleece, so the sheet works whichever way you place it. Put it between the outer fabric and the lining, with cotton batting on the side toward your hand in potholders and mitts.
- How many potholders does one sheet make?
- At 27" x 45", one sheet cuts into about fifteen 9" x 9" squares (3 across by 5 down), one per potholder, or one large lunch bag. Lay out your pattern pieces before cutting to make the most of the sheet.
- Can I iron it?
- Yes, on low to medium heat once it is sewn into your project. Avoid a high-heat iron directly on the fleece.
