Description

Lori Holt Heat Resistant Batting, from Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet, is a thin, low-loft batting for kitchen projects that need to hold back heat or cold. It is made of plated aluminum film and polyester, and it helps reduce or prevent the transmission of heat and cold.

It was designed for the Cook Book Home Decor Casserole Carrier and Hot Pad Panel (HD11775-PANEL, sold separately), and it works in any hot pad or carrier where you want a heat-resistant layer. The package is a one-yard cut. Most makers pair it with a layer of cotton batting for extra cushioning.

Compare and choose

Can I put a project made with this batting in the microwave?
No. It contains a metalized aluminum film and polyester, neither of which belongs in a microwave. For microwave bowl cozies use 100% cotton batting with no scrim, such as Pellon Wrap-N-Zap, and cotton thread. Pellon Wrap-N-Zap 45" x 1 yd
Lori Holt Heat Resistant Batting vs Insul-Bright: what is the difference?
Both are heat-resistant battings with a reflective metalized layer and polyester, used in hot pads, oven mitts and casserole carriers. Lori Holt's is packaged as a one-yard cut to match her Casserole Carrier pattern; Insul-Bright from Warm Company is sold by the yard and on 22" and 45" bolts. Use whichever fits your pattern and quantity. Insul-Bright 45" x 1 yd
Do I need regular batting too?
For hot pads, usually yes. The heat-resistant layer slows heat transfer, while a layer of cotton batting adds cushioning so you can hold a hot dish comfortably. Follow your pattern for layer order.
Is the pattern or panel included?
No. The package is a one-yard cut of batting only. The Cook Book Home Decor Casserole Carrier and Hot Pad Panel (HD11775-PANEL) is sold separately.
Can it also keep things cold?
Yes. Lori Holt describes it as helping reduce or prevent the transmission of both heat and cold, so it works in carriers for chilled dishes as well as hot ones.
