Description

Pellon P45 is Pellon's lightweight sew-in interfacing on a 20" x 48-yard bolt. It is for lightweight fabrics and midweight garments, wovens and knits, blouses and shirts, and it is particularly good with challis, chambray, jersey, broadcloth and linen. Pellon recommends it for delicate fabrics that are sensitive to heat and moisture, where a fusible could damage the fabric or leave a shine.

Because nothing is fused, the fabric keeps its own hand and there is no adhesive to show through a sheer or to bubble after washing. You baste the interfacing to the wrong side of the garment piece inside the seam allowance and treat the two as one layer. The 48-yard bolt is the economical buy for garment sewists and classrooms; for an occasional project the 15" x 3-yard package is enough. If your fabric can take an iron and you want the speed of fusing, use P44F.

Compare and choose

P45 sew-in vs P44F fusible: which should I buy?
Buy P44F if your fabric can take a hot iron; fusing is faster and keeps layers from shifting. Buy P45 when the fabric is sensitive to heat or moisture, when it is sheer or textured and adhesive could show, or when you simply prefer the softer hand of a sew-in. Both are the same lightweight weight class. Pellon P44F Lightweight Fusible 20" x 48 yd
P45 vs Pellon 910 Sew-In Featherweight?
910 is the featherweight grade, lighter than P45, for sheers and the most delicate fabrics. P45 has slightly more body for blouses, shirts and midweight garments. If you are interfacing voile or chiffon, choose 910; for chambray, broadcloth and linen, P45. Pellon 910 Sew-In Featherweight 20" x 10 yd
How do I attach a sew-in interfacing?
Cut the interfacing from the same pattern piece, place it against the wrong side of the fabric and machine-baste the two together just inside the seam allowance. Then sew the garment as if the piece were one layer. Trim the interfacing close to the stitching after the seam is sewn to reduce bulk.
Does it have a grain?
No. P45 is non-woven, so pattern pieces can be laid in any direction and cut from the 20" width with little waste.
Is a 48-yard bolt the right buy for me?
For garment sewists, dressmakers and classrooms, yes: 48 yards at 20" covers dozens of garments at a much lower cost per yard than packages. For one or two projects the 15" x 3-yard sew-in package is the better size. Pellon Sew-In Interfacing 15" x 3 yd package
Is sew-in interfacing washable?
Yes, with the garment. Because there is no adhesive there is nothing to bubble or release in the wash. Pre-wash the fashion fabric as you normally would; a polyester non-woven does not shrink appreciably.
