Black or white: does the stabilizer color matter?

It matters on dark fabrics. White stabilizer behind black or navy can peek out at seam allowances and show as pale dots at needle holes. Use black behind dark fabrics and white behind everything else.

Pellon 40 is a mid- to heavyweight sew-in stabilizer that gives firm, crisp support without being fused. It is 100% polyester non-woven, so it does not stretch or shrink and there is no adhesive to worry about on heat-sensitive fabrics. It is the layer behind hat brims, tote bag bodies and needlecraft backings when the project needs body but not board stiffness.

White is the standard color for light and medium fabrics; behind black or navy, the black version keeps the stabilizer from showing at seams and needle holes. The 20" x 10 yard bolt cuts bag panels and brims with little waste.
